In regard to the purpose for establishning the T S, Bruce's quotations are
useful to me.

I did not realize that it was Jinarajadasa who expressed his opinion as to
the nature of HPB's double levels of work.

There is no question in my mind that the "occult," or "esoteric" work which
provided the Power and the Force behind the Theosophical Society could also
experess itself, from the beginning as a link to the original School of the
Adepts [ see hints given in ISIS UNVEILED, Vol. 2, pp. 99 to 103.] It
also seems plain to me that the Mahtmas (or Masters) were primarily
responsible for the establishing of the TS. HPB was Their mouthpiece.

It is also apparent that Olcott was one of the first to be initiated into
this reincarnation of the "School," of which HPB was the visible
representative. In a very short while Wm. Q. Judge was also initiated.

And it is also of record that HPB, Col. Olcott and W.Q.JUDGE remained true
to their vows and carried on the work of the Theosophical Movement till
their bodies died.

It is also my opinion that the members of the T S have lost a great deal of
important information which ought to be available to them, if they had for
easy reference the writings of W. Q. Judge, which HPB highly valued and
praised.

Judge as General Secretary for the American Section T S -- from the time
HPB and Col. Olcott left America for India (December 1878) to 1895--a
period of 17 years saw the growth of the American section from 6 Lodges and
about 250 members to over 300 Lodges and better than 5,000 members in 1896.
He always worked most closely with HPB and Olcott, and in 1884 went to
India (with full powers) on their behalf (as they had work to do in
Europe), to handle the problems that the Coulomb/Missionary conspiracy had
begun to develop. This he did with the help of Damodar, Hartmann, and the
Indian Council. Those members who are interested will find in the
THEOSOPHIST for 1884-85 accounts of what was seen and done.

There are several important articles by HPB in regard to the rules and
practices of chelaship and occultism which give us insight into the primary
requirement: moral purity :

THE THEOSOPHICAL MAHATMAS, "The Path," December 1886

CHELAS AND LAY CHELAS, Supplement to Theosophist, July 1883.

PRACTICAL OCCULTISM, [ Gives the Rules of Chelaship ]
Lucifer, April, May 1888, June 1889

OCCULTISM vs. THE OCCULT ARTS, Lucifer, May 1888.

SPIRITUAL PROGRESS, Theosophist, May 1885.

Mme. Blavatsky ON THE "HIMALAYAN BROTHERS"
 Spiritualist, London, August 21, 1881

CAN THE MAHATMAS BE SELFISH ? Theosophist, August 1884

CHELAS, Theosophist, October 1884.

Readers who becomes familiar with what is written there will also furnish
themselves with enough information to judge the value of any claims that
could be made on behalf of occultism, the Masters, HPB, etc...

There is a consistency and an coherence to the Theosophical philosophy as
given in its original form [later distorted widely by many opinions -- and
secondary "evidence"] to satisfy the inquiring mind of the most skeptical.

I offer this in the hope that some will read those articles, and that we
may develop further discussion on their contents.
