Glad that you remind what HPB has stated. Of late, I have seen there is
some confusion in certain quarters about the mission of TS. By not
sending a very simple and clear cut msg, I feel that public is attracted
to it with the idea that it is another "New Age" organization. This
being the case, I think it is very important to reiterate that it is not
the place for selfish individuals who are more interested in themselves
and their "spiritual" growth and care less what happens to the their
neighbors or "friends". What is IMHO is needed is more of altruistically
minded individuals who will go about doing what they can in their own
way to help their friends, neighbors and everyone else they are in a
position to either affect and/or interact with.

While I do not advocate beating one's own drums or look for publicity,
looking at from the point of the person or persons helped, they don't
care where or why help is coming. I usually use the analogy of an auto
accident. The man/woman is injured and bleeding and is in pain. When
someone helps that person, it is immaterial why or who helps. So in the
same manner, I personally do not mind even if someone does help others
with selfish motive, it my hope that in due course of time, he/she will
see the futility of looking for reward. In the meanwhile, there could be
many beneficiaries of benefacators.

The uniqueness of Theosophy is that each one of us is given all the
lattitude for us to decide for ourselves what we want to do and how we
want to do and even why we want to do. This unique freedom provides
unlimited opportunities to be creative in what we want to do and it is
such creative individuals who are the real heros. IMHO, we need action
now and results will follow.
