Re:The ubiquitous Masters and channeling

In a message dated 98-01-19 12:28:26 EST, you write:

<< What are your criteria to call these persons deluded? >>

When one makes claims about receiving messages from beings on the inner
planes, there are no purely objective criteria in my opinion. One has to
either accept or reject the claim and/or message, as I said, on gut feelings.
I can, however, ask myself, "besides the usual proclamations of brotherhood
and love, is there a philosophy or cosmology that indicates a high source?" Is
it original or plagiarized? If truth is unchanging, there are, of course,
going to be elements which are familiar. But is the message just a re-
statement of the old or is there something new that intuition might indicate
is authentic?

Creme, on the other hand, has made predictions that have never materialized,
i.e., the Day of Declaration, as he calls it, when the Lord Maitreya will
appear on worldwide television, speak to every one in their own language and
heal thousands instantaneously while all this is going on. This event was
supposed to happen in 1982 and it didn't. The prediction was repeated for
later dates, each time failing to materialize (much to the chagrin of his
adherents, I might add). On this basis, one can presume that he is either
deluded or purposely leading his followers astray. More detail on his claims
can be checked on the rather numerous websites he has going for him.

In reference to Elizabeth Clare Prophet, there is a book written by an ex-
devotee called LAMBS TO THE SLAUGHTER which details the fraud connected with
Guru Ma as she's called. I'm afraid I can't remember the name of the author.

But you're quite correct, each channeler so-called has to be judged
individually. HPB has been called a tulku. Is that the same as a "channeler"
or are there nuances in this Tibetan word that make her situation different?
