You've hit on a problem that many of us face. Our earthly responsibilities
and relationships are at odds with the spiritual stage we think we're at.
[Actually, I think this Western obsession with stages, grades, and progress
is a hinderance in itself. We're raised with this concept if you don't get
to the top, make the A, achieve enlightenment, you've failed. We lose
sight of the fact that this is a mult-life journey.]

As tempting as it is to give examples I've observed in others, let me give
one from my own life.

Unattachment is a problem for me. Being a double Gemini, dissociation
comes naturally and the more I meditate, the more I study, the less
attached I am to emotions, people, and situations around me. Spiritually
this is good. However, I live in the world and this detachment has led me
to act in ways which may have seemed cold, unfeeling, or irresponsible. I
have to balance my own detachment from things with my responsibilities as a
single parent and as a manager at work. I have remind myself that others
are more emotionally involved with things/people than I am, so I don't act
insensitively.
