The reduction of God to an "energy" is one of those oddities circulating under
the umbrella word "New Age", derived no doubt from Blavatskian theosophy
in its notion of the Absolute. This would mean, so it appears to me, that the
First Cause of the manifested universe is devoid of Intelligence and Will,
which
violates the Hermetic axiom as above so below. We have intelligence and will
which makes us beings (as humans). God is the Supreme Being,
Omniscience, Omnipresent, Omnipotent. God is all-comprehensive and as
the One is the creator of the Many. God is infinite love in that God is the
ground and source of all love. We can (as beings) have a commitment to God,
the Supreme Being, but not to a mental abstraction such as an impersonal
force. We are part of God but are not God. This I believe reflects the
philosophy of Ramanuja.
