I did not mention Christianity, our nominal cultural root.  But celibacy
is certainly honored here too.  Not as much as it used to be, but that is
another topic. Brother Giles, disciple of St. Francis praised it. (Quote
available upon request)

What would you accept as "reliable evidence"?
