Ignorance is Bliss

Ignoring unpleasant histories, ideas, people, places etc. is most popular
now and always has been. Given the fact that something can irritate one
-- what to do? Run from it, ignore it, destroy it or fix it to make it at
least tolerable seems to be the favored approach. But does that not seem
a tad materialistic? What about our own attitude? The other side to the
solution is much more long lasting and under our own control. Making our
attitude to harsh feelings, people, ideas, histories etc. patience sweet
which naught can ruffle. Of course it is far more difficult to control
ourselves than cleaning up the environment. Thus the popularity of the
latter as opposed to the former.

It is not an exclusive choice though, I just think the emphasis is far to
much on the outer changes versus the inner one.
