All that may be true. However, the problem is--convincing those who are so
steeped in materialistic rationality that they cannot transcend their wrong
views and acknowledge to themselves that one CAN become a spiritually evolved
being.

Study of the theosophical teachings (based on the three objects) could help
all those who are living intellectually and materially "worldly lives"--to
recognize that spirit exists, is as "real" as matter, and that they are,
themselves, eternal beings. For those hard headed, materialistically minded
people, no amount of first hand "living proof" can convince them--let alone
the second hand testimony of others. Such past "witnesses", they would think,
could have been as easily deluded by such "living proof" as many are today who
report seeing ghosts and flying saucers. (Not to say that there's no
possibility such things may exist.:-) Besides, when one learns and
understands that the conscious universe creates itself out of its divine
nature and evolves under the rule of fundamental laws, and that there can be
no such thing as miracles or supernatural experiences, their ideas will begin
to change. For those kinds of basically good people who are, by reason of
their intellectual rationality, skeptics and agnostics--studying and learning
these truths can give them the incentive to start opening the doors to their
own spiritual awakening.

In addition when one studies theosophy, one also finds out that there are
methods of meditative practice that can open one's eyes to the spiritual
reality--which, thereby, can be experienced directly. What better "living
proof" is there than that?

If one's karma allows one to "transcend supernal banality" and make the "leap"
to become a "spiritually evolved being", it must have been that such karmic
"effect" was based on one's previous lifetime's experiential "causes"
consisting of both study AND practice. . . Theosophy holds that it is quite
impossible to fully awaken the spiritual nature until all the lower natures
have been aligned, step by step, and brought UP to the spirit--instead of
Christianities' method of pulling the spirit DOWN to the lower nature.

Therefore, while study is not the "essence" of spirituality--for some, it may
be the only way they can, in this lifetime, start on the road to spiritual
awakening, as well as becoming useful in helping and teaching others (which,
in turn, can lead to further spiritual awakening). From a purely theosophical
scientific point of view--since Spirit (or pure consciousness) must contain
everything that is below it on the 7, 10 and 12 fold scales of universal
evolution, one cannot "be awakened" to ALL Spiritual knowledge until ALL the
knowledge of the "fields of action" (it informed) below it are fully learned
and understood. This takes continual study until one reaches the highest
level of Adi-Buddha.
