RE: Theos-World On the Coming of maitreya

Dear Kate:

With the help of some of the original writings by HPB we can
trace the esoteric meaning of the legend or prophecy concerning
the coming of a great Buddha named MAITREYA.

As an example in THEOSOPHICAL GLOSSARY, p. 202 HPB says:

"Esoteric philosophy teaches that the next Buddha will appear
during the 7th (sub) race of this Round. The fact is that
Maitreya was a follower of [Gautama] Buddha, a well-known Arhat,
though not his direct disciple, and that he was the founder of an
esoteric school."

Other references that one may look up are ISIS II 156fn 260 549
275; SD I 378 384 470 ; HPB Letters to A P Sinnett p. 195,
243. His "return" as an "Avatar" will be after hundreds or
thousands of years, according to the law of cycles and the
progress that humanity will have made. Among the Hindus in their
system Maitreya is to be the KALKI AVATAR (T. Gloss p. 170, 44,
371, 306) also "Sosiosh."

These are the universal traditions.

Best wishes,

Dallas

D. T. B.

Dear Everyone,

I am new to this list and am delighted by all the thoughts and
ideas that I
see daily. My question is also in regards to the Maitreya
question.
Previously someone had stated that the sightings were documented
by both CNN
and Toronto Sun and that there were probably listings in their
search engines
for archive articles. Intrigued I immediately went to both sites
to check.
Both sites had links to material about Maitreya, but
unfortunately only
indirectly. They were either about a Tibetan art show in Canada
and the
south west, or a travelogue of a reporter's trip to the Tibetan
capital.
Obviously, more substantive proof would need to be offered in
order to go
along with Benjamin Creme's observations.

Thanks so much. I just wanted to share with the group the
research I did on
the claims.

Ever searching,
Kate
