Theos-World RE: [bn-basic] Re: [bn-basic]Hitlerian Theosophy?

Dear Friends:

If Theosophy is a statement of facts in Nature, then everything
we have acquired of information about the "secret" workings of
Nature will automatically form a pat of Theosophical lore.

If information can be used (morally, for the betterment of the
world), then those who are selfish can abuse it. Wisdom or
knowledge cannot be "blamed." However those who possess it may
refuse to release information which might be abused at some
particular historical juncture.

In my opinion it is wrong to connect Hitler and his regime and
subsequent atrocities against mankind and Theosophy. Anyone who
is more than skin-deep acquainted with Theosophy knows that it
more akin in ethics to Buddhism (I use this only as an example --
as I might easily point to the Beatitudes and the Sermon on the
Mount as illustrations of the moral and ethical usages that we
all respond to).

Only those who have neither studied Buddhism, Theosophy, nor the
fundamental ethics of human relations as practical ideals will
ever be confused about Hitler and his regime of oppression having
anything to do with theosophy.

Take for example the knowledge we have acquired of atomic
physics. It can be used to create a bomb that indiscriminately
slays thousands, and cure cancer and other diseases when wisely
used. Every aspect of knowledge has dangers. To know and apply
the difference is WISDOM.

This is only my opinion, of course.

Dear Members,

These questions about Hitler open up a very important issue about
Theosophy. Although others have already addressed this issue, it
seems that we need to make it clearer.

Anyone can say anything about Theosophy, and the speculations
about Hitler's studies and antecedents may be interesting. But in
no way did he reflect the Wisdom Religion in his actions. In fact
he
represents the diametrical opposite of Ancient Truth in all he
did.

We look at the history of the Nazi movement in Germany and are
horrified, but we forget perhaps that all manifested life owes
its
existence to a fundamental fact of occultism, the movement
between pairs of opposites. Where there is Light, there is also
darkness. The forces of darkness always seek to destroy what the
Forces of Light create. This is the war of the ages that is
spoken
about at great length in occult literature, such as the Bhaghavad
Gita, the war of the Higher and the lower self of humanity.

Each unit of humanity, we students included, fights this war
within
himself every day. We all manifest forces of darkness, when we
give way to the lower sides of our natures, and indulge in anger,
selfishness, egotism, judgement of our fellows, or any of the
long
list of human weaknesses.

Perhaps this is one reason we are so fascinated by someone like
Hitler, who manifested pure evil in a big way. We see in his
atrocities a reflection of our own lower natures, and one of our
most
important responsibilities as students of Higher Knowledge is to
conquer these tendencies in ourselves. In order to master them,
we
must first recognize them, and seeing them displayed so
arrogantly puts them in sharp relief, the better to realize how
we
nurture them ourselves in the darkness of our own ignorance.

However, these dark forces feed on our attention to them. We give
them strength by dwelling on them. Our job is not to discover
them
in others, but to discover them in ourselves. We cannot do
anything about weaknesses in our fellows, but only in ourselves.
And when we do discover such qualities in our own natures, it is
our responsibility to root them out and destroy them, by
replacing
them with their higher polarities. Evil only exists on the planes
of
manifestation. It does not exist on the planes of spiritual life,
which
constitute the only reality that endures. When we discover
selfishness in our own natures, we can replace it with altruism,
and
the same for every other quality of the human constitution. In
this
way we align ourselves with the Forces of Light, and become
active
contributors to the progress of the evolution of consciousness of
all
humanity.

The forces of darkness, in their persistent attempts to destroy
all
that is good and pure, all that tends toward Unity and
Brotherhood,
use and ultimately destroy anyone who will be their tool, and
that
is all that a person like Hitler is, a tool, to be used, abused,
and
destroyed. He may have had some power, derived from the
perversion of some level of occult teaching, but it was the kind
of
power that turns on itself and anihilates itself, as history has
attested already.

Any area of investigaion is open to the Theosophist, but let us
remember our goal, to make of ourselves pure beings, to become
that which we study, aspiring to higher and higher levels of
devotion
and gratitude, to manifest as far as we are able the qualities of
Light that we have been given to understand as the real future of
humanity. It is always better to train our attention on the
Higher
aspects of the polarities of our manifested life, since what we
think
is what we become.

Sincerely,
Adelasie
