Dear Bruce,
thanks for answer. I see, we are on different planes.
What you wrote is no contradition to that what I wrote.
I fear you did not understand my position.
HPB used the term with occult backgriund, wheras you
use the word with scientific knowledge.
You are simply playing with the words, the gramma etc.
but that does not alter the meaning.

For a Theosophist the Dugpas are basicly black magians,
for others not. What then?
For some Hitler is a bad person, for others he is a hero.
But for those who give him bad names it is no misuse fo terms
as they are subjectively convinst that he was evil.
The Dugpas are sometimes also known as black hats.

> She just made a mistake based on the limited knowledge back then.

The mistake is with your thinking only. HPB seems to me have been well
aware of what she wrote.
You just intermix cause and effect as you are only thinking. Use your
higher powers. When HPB was working the term was there and she used
the terms which she did find among the men. Would there have been instead
of it the term Mickey Mouse she would have used that.

Or, if you like, you can rename the Dupgas as Donald Duck, but even if they
are all called Donalds they remain what they are, the unreformed remnants
whose direction is to the left hand path.
