Dear Friend:

In the KEY TO THEOSOPHY by H.P.B., p. 132, one reads:

"...the reincarnating Ego, or individuality, retains during the
Devachanic period merely the essence of the experience of its
past earth-life or personality...the term between two rebirths is
said to extend from ten to fifteen centuries [ 1,000 to 1,500
years ] during which time the physical consciousness is totally
and absolutely inactive, having no organs to act through, and
therefore no existence, the reason for the absence of all
remembrance in the purely physical memory is apparent."

Again on p. 145: "The average time is from en to fifteen
centuries..."

Apparently the period of time that each reincarnating Ego spends
in this state depends on the degree of spiritual aspirations,
thoughts, feelings and acts done by it in any one life-time.

In another place H.P.B. states that for some who, like children
or young people, die early in life, reincarnation may be more
rapid as there is nothing to assimilate in the Devachanic state.

Others may spend a number of millennia there. It all depends on
the amount of spiritual merit acquired and which is to be
mediated on and assimilated in that intermediate spiritual state.
Karma rules in all such matters. Apparently the Ego in Devachan,
is not conscious of the passage of time as it rolls by on the
Earth.

Best wishes,

Dallas

Subject: [bn-basic] Devachan

Is it the teaching of Theosophy that a new born baby has just
spent the
last 15,000 years in Devachan?
