DearFriend:

The exchange of ideas is not to impose any finality or supremacy, but rather to investigate as far as possible the accuracy of some descriptive situation where metaphysical and practical life meet.

The cup is not being “filled” but rather the questions and points of view (perspectives) are being examined as best we can -- and also, compared with various systems of philosophy, psychology,  religion and science when these present useful analogies or facts.

The discussions are indeed never-ending, as we study Nature, Karma, and ourselves, as eternal beings and our freedom to make those decisions that will shape our particular future -- and also affect the future of others.

If we consider ourselves and the rest of Nature as Physical Forms made up only of“Matter,” we will all agree that they are ephemeral and deserve the appellation of “illusions.”  But inherent in them is somethingthat is not subject to change.

The constitution of the MONAD as a primary base is that it is a “unit of Life Force.”  It is described as a unit of life and it is constituted of an indivisible bond of SPIRIT and PRIMORDIAL MATTER.  As such It is launched on the individual path of SELF-discovery, when it emerges from the MONADIC ESSENCE  (S.D. I 619) and, it becomes then crystallized, so to say.

Fromthat point on it enters and experiences (AS A CONSCIOUS Individual -- AN EMBODIED MIND) all the processes of evolution which are see embodied in a material form, in a particularized vital force, as the lattice work of electro-magnetic energy called astral matter (that underlies the physical), as personalized desire and passion, as the Individual and ineradicable Mind and its many divisions, and finally as a WISE HUMAN BEING (an Adept, a “Brother,” a BUDDHA) who then acts as a responsible and brotherly Agent of Nature as a Whole.

At no point is this lengthy pilgrimage truncated or ended.  The ultimate goal is for the individualized “Life-Unit” is to return as a CONSCIOUS AGENT FOR BROTHERHOOD AND GOOD which form the “Guardian Wall” spoken of in the : THE VOICE OF THE SILENCE.

H.P.B. in the S.D.  (Vol., II, p., 260 and footnote speaks of 2 laws that eternally interact:

1.  “The Occultists believe in an inherent law of progressive development, and

2.  [That this Law is] checked and modified…by the Law of Retardation, which imposes a restriction on the advance of all species when a Higher Type makes its appearance.

(seealso S.D. II 172fn 197 289fn )

One may surmise that the retardation occurs when one makes bad or evil choices.  Progress is halted until harmony and balance are restored.  Might we not assume that our presence here on our Earth is evidence of such a halting place where the restoration of disturbed harmony is our prime duty?

Thisseems to indicate the importance of a balanced harmony -- or Karma of large groups in action.  We are inevitably drawn into such vortexes, and we have to fight our ay out.  The only tools we have are our MINDS which serve as a chink in the wall of illusion, and let the Light of the ILLIMITABLE and the ULTIMATE enter our dark cavern of false concepts.  [see S.D. I 175fn]

Would not the CORE and its ESSENCE be altruistic and therefore IDEAL metaphysical concepts of perfection and excellence that serve as stable centers, in and around which, the evolution of all Monads takes place?  Could these not be called the Universal Laws of Karma and of the Morality of ALTRUISM (which is a continual and practical application of brotherhood?).  Is not MIND inherent in every Monad?  As Human Monads, are we not endowed with it?

Is not the “HEART” Doctrine that which continually urges us to choose the harmonious and generous aspect of co-existence and cooperation?  Does it not urge us to become wise?

Fromour physical and material living plane of perception this appears illustrated as the “Point on the Horizon” that forever recedes on our path of pilgrimage -- and receding, it lures us forward to the IDEAL.  It makes us search for the laws of such a concept and the nature of ourselves as the vehicles of IDEALISM.  Then it asks: “Why does this “Point on the Horizon” forever recede?

Moreto the point, it says that if we did not already have such a view point inherent, innate in us, we would neither have such a concept nor would we be influenced to seek to understand it.  Weought to be able to explain this, as well as that nefarious influence that lures us equally to selfishness, indifference, isolation and pleasurable leisure.

We may never fill the presently projected “Cup of Excellence,” but we may, through search and meditation on metaphysical ultimates, assure ourselves of the fact thatwe are those ETERNAL PILGRIMS, and the CUP (like the Holy Grail of fable) is the never to be emptied plenum of WISDOM.  Our unity with the Spiritual nature is never severed, and the “cup” is never filled entirely so long as we live for the benefit of ALL.  But, at no time are we ever able to bind and isolate TRUTH for ourselves alone.  If that is attempted, its effulgence destroys the unworthy and selfish form.

In other words, the Lower Manas (ours) apprehends TRUTH and WISDOM in this plane of material “Here and Now,” though it may not be able to describe them, butfinds that it can so modify its own living that it approaches ever nearer to BUDDHI and to ATMAN the Ultimate Truth Of All, and make them practical.

.

Best wishes,

Dallas

I don't know about the reader, but at least two rather salient things
are coming to my attention,  lately:  1/  the interest in whatever topic
we're discussing, and  2/ a seemingly growing background sense that such
discussions are, in essence, never-ending:  it's as if, at best, we can
only discuss AROUND the Essence of meaning of which Core would seem to
be somewhere in us all along.   As I see it,  our discussions would seem
to have (to some extent?) entertainment value, along with whatever else
we see in them?

Trying to achieve everything from a perceived object , be it theosophic
writings\bible writings\etc. holds the mind that cares for love because, like
the point on the horizon that continually vanishes no matter how fast we may
run to "catch" it , the objects essential nature can seem to continuously
slip away , leaving one with a sense of emptiness as not having "captured"
it?
Is it not good that this happens?
For we could not "FILL" the cup if it were already filled with something else
maybe.
