Re: Planetary Logoi - What does the term mean?


Dear Friend:

Where did you secure the designation "Planetary Logoi ?"

Have you by any chance searched for it in the Indexes to ISIS
UNVEILED and THE SECRET DOCTRINE ? I tried to locate such an
entry but failed.


LOGOS, LOGOI, PLANETARY SPIRITS

As I understand it the HIGHEST KNOWN TO OUR WORLD are described
in THE SECRET DOCTRINE I pp 207-8, and II 700fn.

The "SOULS" of the heavenly orbs, stars, planes are spoken of:
S.D. I 128, 130, 353, 602, II 552

The "7 Principles" of Man are each said to be derived from one of
the 7 Planetary Spirits -- THE SECRET DOCTRINE, Vol. I 80,
570-3; II 29, 318fn, 563, 636, .

The REGENTS of the Planets are given: S.D. I 104; II 22-3
(They are not the "Logoi.")

KARMA rules the destinies of men and of all beings: S.D. I 128,
278.


LOGOS / LOGOI

LOGOS means Word or Verbum in Latin. LOGOI would mean several
different WORDS. I do not find that H.P.B. uses that. In any
case whatever the Being may be who takes on the work of directing
the reincarnation of the Universe, it is apparently a position of
service, as well as of great responsibility. It is the "mirror of
the Divine Mind" - S.D. II 25. It serves as a link or bridge
between the ABSOLUTE and all manifestation, when the visible
Universe manifests again (as a REINCARNATION of the previous
Universe).


UNIVERSAL MANIFESTATION IS REINCARNATION

In S.D. Vol. I you will find the process of "out-breathing" fully
described. The Spiritual descends gradually into the material as
it condenses out of the SPIRIT. All the great World-Reformers
are said to be emanations of the Logos S.D. II 358-9


IN MAN THE LIGHT OF THE LOGOS SHINES

H.P.B. in The SECRET DOCTRINE, Vol. I, p. 574 speaks, for
instance, of each man shining with the Light of his own Logos.
This seems to draw our attention, and indicates the Unity of
Man-Spirit (Atma, the HIGHER SELF) with the Universal SPIRIT or
PARAMATMA. The whole Universe is said to exist for one purpose:
the emancipation through education and self-determination of the
SOUL. (Patanjali's Yoga-Sutras, pp 25-6) In this process, it is
said that the advance of the Soul serves to lift the whole mass
of manifested matter to the "level of conscious God-hood." (OCEAN
OF THEOSOPHY p. 60)


MONAD - THE EQUIVALENT OF LOGOS

H.P.B. in The SECRET DOCTRINE also speaks of an equivalent of the
Logos as the Universal MONAD (ATMA-BUDDHI, or ATMAN and
PRIMORDIAL MATTER eternally intertwined) and indicates IT is NOT
a PERSONALITY S.D. II 311, 318fn.


KAMA-LOKA and TRAILOKYA

Since the Planetary Spirits deal universally (under KARMA) with
all levels and planes of consciousness, the plane of Kama-Loka is
also known to and dealt with by them. A good reference to this
will be found in H.P.B.'s THEOSOPHICAL GLOSSARY under Kamadhatu,
Kamaloka and Kamarupa (pp. 171-2) also under TRAILOKYA ( pp.
336-7 ). In H.P.B.'S LETTERS TO A.P.SINNETT, see pp. 245 and 251
in this regard.


It would appear that the designation "Planetary Logos" was coined
by a student who followed H.P.B. and used the term after she had
died. But the definition and exactitude of H.P.B. is apparently
lacking.

These are many references, but, they are given in order that the
inquirer may himself discover the correct meaning of the terms
used and described under various functions.
