RE: Studying Nature Without any Theories?

Dear Jerry:

Thanks for the expression of your approach.

What can one say in terms of description if one is convinced by
experience of certain facts?

To others they may appear to be hypotheses or theories. To the
experiencer they are facts and may be so expressed.

If what is said of the ANCIENT SOURCE OF THEOSOPHY ( The SECRET
DOCTRINE I 272-3 ) is accurate,

1. if the immortality of the SPIRIT/SOUL is perceived as a fact,

2. if the laws of Nature are seen to permeate her in all
directions, and

3. if evolution is a complete pattern of advancement that is
self-induced over a course that may take millions of years,

Then why would not things (that to some are purely speculative)
be expressed by others as matters of personal experience.? How
would a Mahatma (if one would consent to present themselves for
examination) -- One who has lived as an INDIVIDUALITY ( as a
fully developed MONAD) for ages and aeons express themselves ?

Why is that THEOSOPHY places the IMMORTALITY of the Human DIVINE
EGO forward as a concept on which so many answers depend -- and
provides logical reasons for its existence and reticence ? Is
it not because it too may become such a MAHATMA in due course of
time and ages of experience ? If you want a theory, how about
that one ? If true, then what would its effect be on our life,
and if generally applied, then how would our society be affected
? For better, or for worse ?

Read through the MAHATMA LETTERS, the ISIS UNVEILED and The
SECRET DOCTRINE and see if anything there is in the nature of a
speculation or an hypothesis. Is there any attempt to confuse or
conceal information from the correspondent?

In conformity with the literary methods of the times, some things
are put in the form of questions or discoveries, and, then again,
facts are employed or described, as well as logic and
metaphysics, when those appear needed.

The whole first 100 pages, nay 300 pages, of The SECRET DOCTRINE,
Vol. I, is full of metaphysical facts and the logic needed for
our embodied minds to grasp after them, and begin to understand
them is offered.

WHY ETHICS ? DOES NATURE INCLUDE THAT ?

The main problem (as I think about it) is that our educational,
religious and social basis, does not tend to put emphasis on the
close ethical interplay between thought, desire, words and
actions Most of us think we can think and say things without
consequences, or that we can somehow evade any consequences, if
we are clever enough to conceal our participation, or later lie
about that and are successful in deceiving others as to our true
acts and motives. According to THEOSOPHY this is impossible.
According to logic it is impossible. In fact is it not strange
that the legal codes of most countries in the world insist on
probity as a prime need for any proceeding? If true, then why?

Some of the statements in The SECRET DOCTRINE have to be read
and mediated on several times, and dovetailed with other
statements to secure a grasp of their implications and meaning.
At least that has been my experience. Also many times I have
re-read a passage and a new meaning appears. Its like the fabled
KUM BUM Tree, an example of perhaps one of the most sensitive
pinnacles of the vegetable kingdom.

I see narration of facts and the adducing of observations -- and
also that kind of historical evidence as can be rechecked by any
one having the necessary facilities and access.

So there is bound to be some incredulity. Now if the incredulity
attracts attention, then again, one or several gaps seem to
become apparent in our screen or veil of learning and data.
Then, some attempt will be made to find out which of the
statements is correct, I think.

And this is an example of the kind of handling of information
that is characteristic of the U. L. T method of cross questioning
and expanding one's logical perception. But you write in general
terms and so I use those,. If you have particulars, then I will
try to provide answers from what I have studied and learned, if I
happen to have investigated what you ask about.

Best wishes,

Dallas

Subject: Studying Nature Without any Theories?

<<<Wisdom pertains to the actual study of nature and not to
theories or
hypotheses concerning the possible causes that might be
correct.>>>

Dallas, if you look over what you wrote above, I think that even
you will
have to see the weirdness of it. How can anyone study nature,
with an open
mind, and not come up with theories and hypotheses???? Study is
all about
theories and hypotheses, and even experience doesn't change this.
To think
that one is able to directly study facts or truths, whether in a
Theosophical context of not, is rather egotistical (and likely
wrong).

DTB	WEIRDNESS ? To which aspect of the mind? The Higher or the
Lower ?

--------------------

... about by combining personal direct experience with studies of
theories and hypotheses (and models).

Theosophy, especially as written literature or "core teachings"
is a finger
pointing to the moon, not the moon itself. Your worrying over
HPB's words
being edited or original is a lot like worrying about a few warts
on the
finger - it has nothing to do with the moon - and each TS is a
different
finger pointing to the same moon.

DTB	I'd rather point at the "moon" with a finger that is
wart-less. Why is it that so many students of the BIBLE are
trying to get as close as they can to an ORIGINAL VERSION after
some 2000 years of interpolations and opinions added to the
ORIGINAL.

I the case of Theosophical TEXTS the changes began within 3 years
of H.P.Blavatsky's death -- In the case of The SECRET DOCTRINE
one can find over 40,000 changes major and minor between the
edition of 1888 and that of 1893. The first page (rather 3/4 of
a page) of the 1893 INTRODUCTORY (xvii) was found to have over
30 alterations when the 1893 edition was proof-read with the 1888
edition H.P.Blavatsky had issued.
