Dear Friend:

If, 400 or so years ago you had asked this question, you might
have been referred to the Kabalah, or burned at the stake after a
lengthy inquisition into the nature of your heresy.

There I would say two levels of knowledge: One that is age-old
and has proven to be so fundamental that it is said to express
the Laws of Nature. [You will find that Mme. Blavatsky refers t
those in the opening pages of ISIS UNVEILED, The SECRET DOCTRINE,
and the KEY TO THEOSOPHY (HPB) . The second level is that which
is developing along with current research. [It is the result of
Scientific, Philosophical and Psychological research in all
departments of Nature.]

Beginning about 125 years ago, Mme. H. P. Blavatsky began writing
a literature to which the name "Theosophical" was attached. The
origins of this history of the establishment and development of
the tenets and doctrines she offered for scrutiny and testing is
give in the Preface and the Introductions to those books. They
were then supported by a large number of articles in Magazines
such as THEOSOPHIST, PATH, LUCIFER, THEOSOPHICAL FORUM, etc
published to supplement and answer questions that arose from
those who read and studied this ancient system of investigation
into the facts and processes of Nature, and the history of its
records as set down by literally generations of student over
millennia.

Our historical records begin to fade and disappear in the mists
of lore and myth about 2 to 5 thousand years ago. Speculation as
to the history, religions, philosophies and movements of peoples
in greater antiquity are looked at suspiciously by scholars --
facts and evidence fade into the mists of time.

What is definite? Mathematics astronomy, physics, chemistry,
architecture. navigation over our globe, the remains of ancient
buildings and cities -- some of the aspects those Sciences and
Arts, which are invariable and changeless of these, can still be
traced and verified in spite of antiquity. So Theosophy has the
antiquity of Fundamental propositions ( see SECRET DOCTRINE Vol.
I pp. 14-19) and current research and verification of its tenets
and doctrines.

If you visit http://www.blavatsky.net you will discover most of
hat is currently available.

Your approach through questions and observations will always be
welcome and responded to as best as student are able.

Best wishes to you, AND WELCOME.

I've never written to this list so I've no idea if my message
automatically
appears in the digest (which is the format I'm signed onto) or
not....if
someone cares to write me personally and tell me how it works,
I'd
appreciate it.

The question of practical Theosophy is an interesting one. I
think that
regardless of one's position in relation to the "official"
organized
Theosophical Society, one must acknowledge that what is known as
"Theosophy"
is an ever-changing field of study and exploration. To pretend
that there is
a definitive dogma is to be willfully ignorant of the obvious
process of
evolution that is constantly underway within the theosophical
spectrum of
dialogue.

Be that as it may, there is still some question as to whether we
can ever
really know the "true" Theosophy. The wisdom of the Gods, being
theirs, is
definitively different from that of our own.
