But why does Daniel re-post e-mails directed to Paul Johnson from 
another this to this list ? 

If the purpose was to bring quotes from books, couldn't they have 
been quoted without e-mails directed to a person that is not part of 
the discussion ?

I followed the link listed at the bottom of your mail but I didn't 
see the "essay" based on Steve's mails. Can you give us the more 
exact link ?
