I can only speak for myself, but attempting to strip
away layers of self delusion has been part of my
practice for the past thirty years. I know there are
others engaged in the same exercise, but they are a
minority. It is a rugged discipline.

I remember an incident in which a former attorney
general wanted to show the world what an ignoramus he
was, and to that end made a speech to the effect that
all artistic representations (and vulgar ones as well)
which were not draped to his satisfaction would feel
the wrath of his office. He won a lot of support from
enemies of the First Amendment, including the
"reverend" Jerry Falwell. He was photographed making
the announcement and was embarrassed to discover that
there was a status of a nude female clearly visible in
the photograph behind him.
