Re: A process of Self-education and Self-control.

Dear Georg, and Friends:

Your outline of developing attention is a good one.

May I ask you to look over the following and see if I got it
correctly?

Most of us have a mind ruled by desire and it flies away from a
subject often to others that amuse it.
If one desires to study anything one has to become "one pointed."
This is what you appear to say.

Now I ask why should one become "one pointed?" I think that we
can say: This leads to motive. It also, if applied as you
suggest, leads to a greater control over the desire principle we
all have.

How are we to recognize the "desire principles" as something
separate and distinct from the "Mind ?"

I then said to myself: Let us look at what has been said.

1st There is the "I" -- myself. [ Is it not the Perceiver and
the Witness that is always the same in us? ]

2nd	There is "my mind." [ It is something I can direct and use.
it also has executive powers and seems at tomes to be able to
overwhelm the directions of the inner Self. ]

3rd	WE select the exercise: "I want to become the controller of
the Mind. I want to make it a good tool." "I want to be able to
do this when I decide to do so." This is a decision we make
voluntarily and positively.

4th	If my "Mind" can be made one pointed for as long as I decide,
then the quality or faculty of being "one pointed," is a quality
(or an aspect) of the mind. You indicate by your exercise that
you employ your WILL (decision making faculty) as a method
superior to the mind faculties, to shape and sharpen it. The
Will seems to be used by the INNER SELF -- which is the Real Man
in my esteem.

4th There are my "desires and inclinations" ( which in this case
serve as distractions ). They draw the mind away from our
decision to make it ONE POINTED.

5th	I live in a physical body, and I can cause it to go to the
field as you suggest and to a designated area for the process you
suggest: It suggests to me that the body is another of my
"tools." [ I find I have : MY SELF, my Mind, my Desires and
my Body. ]

1.	To study the selected area. Its situation in regard to the
rest of the land, its inhabitants: animal, vegetable, mineral.
[ The cooperation that seems to exist between this are selected
and the rest of Nature around it. The inter-relation of various
things in the selected area is important. These observations
ought to evoke a grasp of some of the laws of Nature and of that
selected area. You then suggest my meditation on ourselves we
might see parallels between that and our own constitution. ]

2.	To study and control the mind and other faculties I have which
might be involved in this process. [ To grasp at some of the
analogies between ourselves and our faculties and those of Nature
around us. ]

6th	The body I live in, is then a tool which enables "ME," "MY
Mind," and "My Desires," to function. It has its own life and
methods of maintaining itself. I do not have to exercise moment
to moment control over breathing, the heart-beat, digestion,
etc... etc... I does so automatically. I might even go so far as
to say that I am a tenant living in my own physical body. For
some it is difficult to make these distinctions.

I find an ancient Indian Sage: PATANJALI wrote in great detail
about this in his "Yoga Aphorisms." There is a translation by
Mr. W. Q. Judge available from Theosophical publishers or from
Blavatsky. Net . In this treatise he amplifies some of the
potentials to be considered when one desires to control one's
Mind.

Best wishes,

Dallas

Subject: Esoteric

Hello,

I was flipping through some of these postings, and something
inside
said to click a line or two on esoteric things.

In a nut shell, what is "esoteric" is the aspects of
OURSELVES that
we know nothing about. It is completely useless to seek answeres
to the
Mysteries outside of OURSELVES.

Like Dallas recently pointed out in a lot of detail; first
we have to
KNOW OUR SELF. Once this is accomplished, the illusions we create
with our
senses, these can now be understood.

It is all fun trying to unravel so-called secret messages
and
meanings from text and stuff; but if one is honest with ONESELF,
what
could one really hope for from such effort?

Here is a neat little exercise: Take four and one half yards
of tape,
four stakes, a pitcher of lemonaid, a large tumbler with ice, a
diaper
pin, and a hat; and head out to a quiet field. Plant the stakes
in the
ground one yard apart from eachother and wrap the tape outside of
these
pegs. A square should be there. Now get inside of this taped off
area.
Spend as many hours as you can bear inside this area. Study it
well. Do
you think it is possible to ever know everything about this area
inside
this square?

Okay now. Go back again the next day, and sit inside this
square. And
go into meditation mode. Seek to know what is really YOU. Study
yourself
well; for the same amount of time you spent studying the ground
yesterday.

Now the next day, go back again, and study the ground again.
And the
day after, go back and study self. Keep alternating until
something
happens.

I will not tell you what that 'something' will be; this you
need to
experience for yourself. If you want to get fancy about it, start
your
adventure on a new moon day, and stick to it for 28 or so days. I
promise
you, something will happen. And it will be ESOTERIC.
