Dear Friend:

But, is this not like eating of the Forbidden Fruit -- of the Tree of
Wisdom ?

Karma is started by any thought, feeling or action we do.

The MOTIVE does it. Hence the recommendation that we purify our
motives.

Look at our universe and as suggested in the beginning of The SECRET
DOCTRINE we note that every tiniest bit of "matter" has a SPIRITUAL
center. [ S D I p. 11-12, 17, 120, 289 ] This is the fundamental
and eternal MONAD. It is the Monad which passes through all phases of
evolution and eventual achieves the "human" stage where Mind" is "Lit
up."

This makes of each human an independent thinker. With thinking comes
responsibility.

This is symbolized by the eating of the "Forbidden Fruit" in the
Garden of Eden. Or the "Apple of Discord" among the Greeks.

There is a "testing period," a kind of "right of Passage," whereby
the independent mind has to show that it can become controlled,
separate from any passion or desire, and be entirely charitable and
fair, and just.

It is brotherhood and discrimination. The Discrimination comes with
knowledge and wisdom.

It is an acknowledgment that every other being in the Universe is
alive, necessary, and has a right to live an develop as it desires.
In other words, we deliberately learn to collaborate and to assist
others.

By this method alone we can avoid "bad" Karma and generate "good"
Karma for ourselves.

There are some who misunderstand the meaning of immortality, which is
one of the attributes of the eternal Monad -- of our HIGHER SELF. The
individual and personal Karma becomes a tool which we as immortals
employ in our continuous work -- a work that is divine and gives that
infinite bliss so sought for by the devotee who desires to rid himself
of the burden of sorrow and pain in the world.

Contrary to the concept that this bliss is an isolation for an
immensity of years from sorrow and pain, it is a change of attitude --
a recognition that as an immortal one witnesses these things and
understands their cause. Once we grasp the CAUSE we are detached from
that influence. We know how to proceed. We live as immortals who now
are able to intelligently assist NATURE in her infinite work of
providing the best environment for the growth of MINDS.

We become participants in the vast ecologic agriculture of the
numberless minds which to day are in potential everywhere, but
tomorrow will be the generation of mankind following ours as we
advance further.

Now this may seem (from our present view-point) to be an additional
burden, but in reality it is an occupation that will engage our
greatest intelligence and our highest skill.

Consider and let me know how this view meets with your consideration.

Best wishes,

Dallas

Dear Friends,

First of all, being a newcomer to this study group, I
don't know whether it's appropriate to introduce
subjects other than, right now, the Bible study. If
I'm out of line, someone please let me know.

I'd like to thank again those who recently gave
feedback on the question of the overactive intellect,
and meditation, as a way of helping free us from the
slavery of the restless intellect, too much (often
wrong)thinking that causes us undue distress. Thanks
to Thomas Hodges for retrieving a posting from Mark
Mees which so helpfully addresses the problem.
