Sharing: Word Pictures and the present idiom -- Live
Thoughts

Dear Friends:

No question that any difficulty will be overcome by those
who want to learn.

Perhaps the rigors of karmic circumstances and their
apparent grief and sorrow are the tools that "Mother Nature"
employs in her attempt to harmonize the personal divergence
from law that everyone finds themselves confronting in daily
affairs.

The change in language is one of them.

It would seem that our metaphors and allegories ought to be
made to change -- considering the shift in language, which I
have observed alters about every 7 years as time passes.

Why not establish a set of metaphors or illustrations that
make a word picture of the great truths:

UNIVERSALITY

UNIVERSAL LAW and Laws

TOTAL EVOLUTION

SPIRIT

MATTER

MIND

IMAGINATION

FANCY

PEACE

TRANQUILITY & CALM

PLEASURE & ENJOYMENT

PURPOSE

ACTIVITY

PURPOSE OF LIFE

etc....

Best wishes,

Dal

YES! I agree--young folks [especially] will rarely continue
listening
to anything that does not sound familiar to them in one way
or another.
It's like we must learn some lingo to reach this and the
up-and-coming
generations.

Kind of like we have replaced all of the thee's thy's and
thou's in the
English language with the all-purpose y'all. The meaning is
still
there, everyone knows what you are saying, but it is much
different
compared to the 'old fashioned' colloquialisms. Further
than that, the
similies and metaphors we use to describe things to others
should be
familiar to the majority of the people with which we
converse about the
subject of 'The Big Question' [Why are we here?].

Making popular the unpopular. Making the unapproachable and
feared
approachable and inspiring. Not asking to do much are we...
;)

Bottom line, it will work as long as the truth is contained
in the
conversations. If not, then, like HPB said:
"To the mentally lazy or obtuse, Theosophy must remain a
riddle; for in
the world mental as in the world spiritual each man must
progress by his
own efforts. The writer cannot do the reader's thinking for
him, nor
would the latter be any the better off if such vicarious
thought were
possible."

As for generation X and the generation after: Word
up-y'all! If you
want it 'off the hook', then keep your eyes peeled and your
ears
pressin'. [Translation: If you want to get them
interested, then
observe them, really listen to how they interact with one
another]
=O)

But seriously, the TV-fortified education of many folks
today has not
totally eradicated their potential, and it certainly hasn't
robbed them
of their intelligence. We may be required to find the right
buttons to
push, the right kind of music to play, before they would
even think
about listening to someone else. [trust me on that one...]
