Dear friend:

Re: claims to be H P B reincarnated -- Is it possible?
Is it true ?

As someone just said in another posting, the proof is in the
taste of the pudding. But to discriminate between puddings
demands experience, which means many tastes, and also if one
is sincere, some cooking skills, and a creative faculty
concerning the use of seasonings and spices -- to vary
taste. And that has to be acquired, if not already a part
of our faculties or talents. Everything we have done so far
in life, has been the result of some effort on our part to
learn and to verify. We have had to DO IT.

Experience brings us all successive pains and pleasures.
But why? What can be done to respond and give help or
comfort, or indicate a way out of some difficulty, which for
the moment we cannot find?

Theosophy teaches that we are all brother-souls -- divine
Egos, immortals. And, because the Soul is immortal -- and
does not die when the body reaches the end of its life, our
responsibilities as humans, are far greater than we may at
present realise.

Take the doctrine of Reincarnation which theosophy offers.
This includes right livelihood as a brother to all others,
and makes us responsible when we make errors of judgment
that may cause pain and suffering to others. We have lived
many lives on Earth, because it is the school where brother
and sister immortals work together to learn the lessons that
Earth-life teach. In the past 50 years, more than ever
before in known history, we have mixed and mingled
individuals from all over the world -- are we not all
basically endowed with a similar set of human talents, and
problems of nature or character? Are we not having to ask
why it is that we have those same similarities, problems,
joys and difficulties? Do we not have accidents and
successes? But, when those happen do we ask "Why?"
do we seek for a reason? Theosophy asks us to do that, each
for themselves.

So, in the matter of making judgments about people, or
rather, about what they offer, it is not as easy as one
might believe. We have to have developed some expertise
ourselves, to be as fair as possible to all concerned. And
that means we have developed some skills in logic and in
thinking consecutively. Mathematics is the closest to logic
as one can get in an analogous science.

Theosophy, H P B taught, is the philosophy of fairness and
common sense. and, she added one had to have a well
developed "sense of humor." But this is to be found in the
fundamental teachings that are attributed to the Buddha, and
to Krishna, and also to Jesus -- and in fact all ancient
sages, like Pythagoras, Plato, Confucius, Zoroaster, Lao
Tzu, Manco Capac, taught this. One wonders why there is such
an agreement in their ideas and ideals. Of course each of
them taught at various eras of the past and in several
languages, which today need translation. Are these great
Teachers and Prophets respected and appealed to for no
reason? And if there is a reason what is it? How does it
concern us and our way of living? Should we spend time
examining them?

What for instance makes Buddhism or Islam, Christianity or
Hinduism, valuable? Do those who adhere to those creeds
actually study and know them well? Or are they only
superficially adopted? I mean without much deep thinking?
And, if so, why is that they are not given the respect of
study they would seem to deserve? Are some of the modern
adherents actually deeply studying the meaning of what those
creeds and their respective Prophets or originators ACTUALLY
SAID ?

We do have today the facility of being able to read, discuss
reasonable freely, and make up our own minds over things
like that. How do we know that people who set themselves us
as "guides," and "counselors," are impersonal, free of bias
and able to present a fair and correct view of the main
tenets of any religious creed or of its founder ?

Now why does it happen that men whose wisdom has been valued
down the centuries, have a common base? Does it not imply
that like the laws of Nature that science continually
unveils, there are laws of logic and of fact which any one
who desires to discover them can find?

The important thing is that Nature, which is our Earth and
the Universe around it, has these rules and regulations
concerning matter, the elements, chemistry, physics,
mathematics, evolution in general, already in place. Now
how is this.

Are we not also part of the Earth and the Universe? Can we
not discover rules concerning our own existence? Is this
important? What impels us to inquire? If we are interested
in securing answers, then we begin probing our memories and
our lives, and begin to catalog the circumstance we have
been through and recall. This is applying the science of
observation to our own lives.

Do they have purpose? Are we here by chance? What and
where are we all going? Is the ability to notice, to
discriminate, to record significant? What can be done with
such a faculty or faculties?

I think this is the beginning of a search for reason. Where
will it take us ? Well, I think that each of us decides
that. We are all free choosers.

As I see it, Theosophy causes us to ask many questions,
chiefly of our selves and of our ability to think
impersonally and logically about things. It develops in us
the desire and the ability to ask questions, and then, seek
for answers to our questions. Is it not so for all of us,
at least to some degree? Of course we also know that if we
ask a question based on some pre-judged concept, any answer
returned to us will be shaded by our preconception as
understood by the one who answers. so if we want a useful
answer, we have to start by asking an unprejudiced question.
This thrown us back to the base of deciding what is fair --
as we originally said. Theosophy is the philosophy of
fairness.

How then can we help each other?

Best wishes,

Dallas

Subject: Thinking about Claims of being a reincarnation of
H.P.B.

Hi,

I'm a newcomer to this group. My major is Computer Science.
I'm
trying to learn Occultism from Blavatsky sources.

I think it is very important what Dallas said as:

"The main point is: Do they who make claims, have the
knowledge that H P B displayed?"

Well, thinking on human interaction point of view, I find
H.P.B.
phrasing as: "O Lanoo" in her writings. For me there is
pain, there is
loving truth, there is giving a hand. Which is quite
difficult to
find in face to face human interaction at a time.
