Fermilab Hosts Virtual Ask-a-Scientist on December 12, 2002

BATAVIA, Ill. - The Department of Energy=92s Fermi National
Accelerator=20=

Laboratory will host the next Virtual Ask-a-Scientist on-line chat=20
session on December 12, 2002 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Central
Time.=20=

Physicists Brenna Flaugher, of Fermilab=92s CDF experiment, and Tom=20
Diehl, of Fermilab=92s DZero experiment, will respond to questions
live=20=

on-line. This upcoming chat session should be unique because the=20
featured scientists also happen to be husband and wife, which is a=20
first for this program.

Virtual Ask-a-Scientist is an on-line chat session with Fermilab=20
scientists that gives participants the opportunity to ask questions=20
about high-energy physics from: =93What is a neutrino?=94 to =93Can I
=
build a=20
particle detector at home?=94 Fermilab invites people of all ages and
=
all=20
science backgrounds to participate.

=93I think that it is important for practicing scientists to share
the=20=

excitement of discovery with those people who are interested in=20
science, but not directly involved. Why should scientists have all
the=20=

fun?=94 said Don Lincoln, a Scientist for Fermilab=92s DZero project,
=
who=20
participated in the most recent Virtual Ask-a-Scientist on October
9,=20
2002. =93I had a wonderful time speaking with a number of people
during=20=

the Virtual Ask a Scientist chat session. The questioners were
mostly=20
like us=85seekers of the truth.=94 Transcripts from this and other
chat=20=

sessions are available online at:=20
http://www.fnal.gov/pub/inquiring/virtual/.

Interested participants may join the Virtual Ask-a-Scientist
chatroom=20
on the evening of December 12, 2002 by clicking a link on the
Fermilab=20=

homepage (http://www.fnal.gov) and following the directions to log
in=20
and ask questions. Java enabled browsers are required. Internet=20
Explorer version 4 or higher is recommended, but Netscape=92s
browsers=20=

may also be used. (Netscape is not recommended for Macintosh users.)

For more information about Virtual Ask-a-Scientist, please visit=20
