sacred places--further reflections

First let me say that discussions such as these are far more uplifting
and ease my mind far more than those political ones do.

After the last post to Paul's, I walked over to the post office where my
latest bi-weekly copy of the Phoenicia Times awaited me. Inside was an
open letter to the people of this area from the Dalai Lama. He writes:

"I extend my greetings to the people of Shandaken and Phoenicia. I have
visited the Catskill Mountains before and congratulate you on preserving
your natural environment. recently, thanks to the generosity of a local
foundation Tibet house U.S. has been given a retreat center on Panther
Mountain. Tibet House U.S. is a cultural institution founded fifteen
years ago at my request with the mission to preserve the precious
spiritual culture of Tibet. As you all know, our Tibetan culture has been
endangered by decades of Communist occupation. Tibet House U.S. hpoes to
carry om its mission at the Menla Mountain Retreat on Panther Mountain
with special focus on Tibetan Buddhist Medicine and Buddhist
spirituallity.

I look forward to Tibet House U.S. introducing you to the unique
qualities of tibetan culture and sharing the peace and joy of living in
the beautiful Catskill Mountains."

When the message was delivered it was remarked that the Dalai Lama on his
tour through the Catskills, "commented several times on the beauty of the
land. and remarked at how much it reminded him of places in his native
Tibet."

That site is about nine miles from where I live. It is the third such
site to come to this area, joining the Zen Mountain Monastery at Mt.
Tremper and the Lamasary above Woodstock.

It has long been such. The art colonies, the hippies, the folk singers,
the Wiccan practitioners, all drawn here. Not to mention the UFO
activity. (As in Whitley Schriber) What of lay lines and such? Are there
places that are "sacred" or at least prone to draw in certain types that
are in resonant harmony with that place?
