Mormonism

Steve,

A further word on Mormonism (which Mormons would simply refer to as "The
Gospel')

I find Latter-day Saints to be no less logical than any other Christian
religion. In fact, as I have often said, they are closer to Theosophy
than most in many concepts. But they don't take their knowledge to its
logical conclusions, they're caught up in exclusivity and they have a
autocratic priesthood worse than anything the Catholics ever dreamed of.

When you assert that Mormons made up that whole thing on Baptism for the
Dead, they would reply that they only are doing what the primitive
Christians were doing. They would cite Paul's letter to the Corinthians
where after an exhaustive discourse on the atonement and the ressurection
he writes as justification for all this " Else what shall they do which
are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then
baptized for the dead?" (I Cor 15:29)

As to why so many intelligent people are caught in the Mormon web, it's
because they want to be there. Tthey like or need an authoritative
structure in their lives which reinforces their basically conservative
natures. The logic is actually sound as long as you don't force it to the
limits like I did.
