What is amazing is that these revelations about White seem not to have
hurt the Adventist movement in the slightest. They reported as U.S.
memebership around 680,000 in 1990 and in 2001 reported 861,860. 

The movement is rooted in the Great Disappointment of the 1840's, when
William Miller predicted the Second Coming, went to a cave with his
followers to await the event and had to eat crow. Ellen White picked up
some of the pieces of that movement and went fron there. 

Charles T. Russell picked up other pieces and started the Watchtower and
Bible Tract Society which became the Jehovah's Witnesses. They to have
set dates which never happened and have contstantly undergone
reinterpretation of those events. 

So Ellen finds herself in good company.
