Re: Pride and Arrogance

Dear Friend:

You ask:

“Is it possible that people mistake confidence for pride; or
mistake learned for arrogance?”

Perfectly true if one is selfish or has any kind of
self-interest.

But if the effort is to distribute sound common sense and true
moral and ethical precepts, also, knowledge of the inner workings
of the Universe and of Mankind’s part in this, then it has value.

The recipients have to test and decide if there is worth in
anything offered. This, for them, is the university of mental
growth and moral strength.

Truth and Wisdom are no one’s property and ought to be FREE to
all who need them. So Theosophy is free.

“Thus have I heard….” say the Bhikkus who preach the words of the
Great Buddha.

Best wishes,

Dallas

Subject: [bn-study] RE: A "Youth Forum" Q&A article about "PRIDE"

Is it possible that people mistake confidence for pride; or
mistake learned for arrogance?

'It how you say it'

I've heard...

Is that to say 'tread lightly on the eggshells',

or 'tell only what is expected to give warm fuzzies'
or otherwise not disturb how we go about living?

For those patriotic-types, an excerpt from an oldie but goodie:

God shed His grace on thee
And crown thy good
With Brotherhood
>From sea to shining sea

Destiny, or blowing smoke to disguise the way and means of pride?

'I'll choose DESTINY for a thousand Alex'
[a little Jeopardy humour]

Subject: [bn-study] A "Youth Forum" Q&A article about "PRIDE"

I hope that many readers, especially newcomers
to theosophy, will find this article about
"PRIDE" in the "Youth Forum" question & answer
department of THEOSOPHY magazine, which is found
in the "Additional" articles Index page of my
WisdomWorld.org web site, to be very informative
and useful; and that it may be the type of article
that spurs some people to think of things to
respond with -- either by commenting on some of
the subjects and things in it, or by talking about
the subjects in different ways, or by asking
questions, or by providing answers to those that
may be asked.

This is the question about "pride" that is answered
in article Number 13 of the 17 that are so far
finished in the department (and the direct link to it):

=======================================================
"Pride seems the most insidious and powerful of human
vices, probably because it feeds on human virtue. It
is therefore a strong indictment when outsiders, and particularly
Christians, voice the suspicion that the Theosophical philosophy,
with its emphasis on man's innate divinity, does much to foster
this sense of pride. Has such an accusation any basis in truth?"
http://www.wisdomworld.org/additional/YouthForum/13.html
========================================================

And Below is the link to the section on the
"Additional" articles Index page that is entitled
"NINE GROUPINGS OF ARTICLES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE & ADULTS--
MOST OF WHICH ARE IN "QUESTION & ANSWER" FORMAT
that the "Youth Forum" department is in. It's the
13th of 18 sections on the page. These are the
nine departments. The link to the Index page of
the "Youth Forum" department is the 5th one:

(1) Theosophy School (1925-26)
(2) Youth-Companions' Forum (1930-41)
(3) Youth-Companions Ask-- (1947-51)
(4) Youth-Companions Ask--and Answer (1951-62)
(5) Youth Forum (1962-67)
(6) Student Reflections (1996-98)
(7) Question--and Comment (1960-62)
(8) Letters-Questions-Comment (1962-98)
(9) Facets of Inquiry (since 1999)

===================================================

Dear newcomers to Theosophy:

I sincerely do hope that my web site offers
a well-rounded overall view of Theosophy and
the Theosophical Movement. The 3 main links
to everything on it are found below.

Please know that I'm only the compiler of
all the articles found on my web site; I'm
not a scholar; and also that I personally
do not like to take part in conversations,
even though I do hope that what I present
from time to time will help a little in
the discussions being carried on by others.
So please do not be insulted when I do not
respond if someone addresses me, or addresses
anything that is found in any of the articles
on my web site; I leave that for others to
deal with if they want to -- whether pro, con,
neutral, friendly or unfriendly.

You may find a great deal of the Truth that you
are searching for here:

WisdomWorld.org web site (Main Page): http://www.wisdomworld.org

This is the Index page of the "Introductory",
"Setting the Stage" book, which was especially
compiled for newcomers to Theosophy:
http://www.wisdomworld.org/setting.html

The page where "Additional" articles are slowly
being added (which contains 18 sections that
can each be clicked on at the top of the page
in order to go directly down to them, as well
as to get the link to any particular section
that you may want to use in a posting on a
discussion board, or in an e-mail to someone):
http://www.wisdomworld.org/additional/index.html

"PUBLIC & PRIVATE ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENT FORUM":
This next link is to the most updated version of my
economic proposal to humanity, a practical project
to help our suffering humanity that I also consider
to be Theosophical. In it you will find a new and
unique, but mostly unknown, economic system
model that might be able to put an end to involuntary
poverty on earth. How? It presents a way to fully
finance everything of importance that is needed
in every nation. Because of this it's well worth
pointing to. Please note that, for strategic
reasons, of wanting it to have the best chance
of being accepted by all peoples worldwide,
no matter what their religious, philosophical,
and scientific beliefs are, I've put it on a
completely different web site; it contains
no mention of, or link to, the Theosophy and
the Theosophical Movement that is presented
on my WisdomWorld.org web site:
