Unfortunately, their influence is still very strong in the academic 
community in the United States, and their influence on the Democratic 
Party is about as strong as the influence of the Christian 
fundamentalists on the Republican Party, and just as dangerous to people 
who believe that there is an inherent right to freedom of thought.
