Dear Friend:

I looked at the symbol H P B placed following her initials.

I would hazard the following observations:

The 6 parallel horizontal lines might signify the planes or the
principles.

Counting from above this is the 3rd line. Possibly it is Manas
or Buddhi-Manas.

The Circle with centered Dot on the 3rd line from the top might
signify MANAS as the potential of the focused, universal vision
of an Adept when centered there.

The 3 lines below might signify the divisions or principles that
form the "personality" minus the physical body.

Please treat this as surmise only. All symbols have at least 7
keys and interpretations. This may be one of them.

I think the key is to be found in MAHATMA LETTERS where the
"principles and planes" are numbered . From above, this seems to
be the 5th principle -- MANAS. The KEY TO THEOSOPHY (HPB) also
offers some hints on this in the tables given pp. 91-2, 135-6,
195-6., and in SECRET DOCTRINE we have S D I 4-6, 157, 242-6,
200, II 300, 591-3, 596, 600fn,

What happened to Vol. 2 ? The set is incomplete as offered,
unless I am mistaken.

I have an original 1888 edition in 2 volumes.

Best wishes,

Dallas

Subject:	Theos-World Signed 1888 edition of The Secret Doctrine +
mystery symbol

Hello,
I am writing concerning a book which is up for auction on ebay at
the moment - an 1888 edition of "The Secret Doctrine" which bears
a handwritten dedication to Bertram Keightly by Madame Blavatsky.
She includes a symbolic alias which I'd be really interested to
know more about. Does anyone know the meaning of this symbol?
After countless hours in the library and on the net I haven't
been able to track it down. Any help would be much appreciated.
I've included a link below.
Thanks,
