Re: [bn-study] Theosophy, brotherhood, prayer and political action

Hi ----,

Hope you don't mind my posting this letter to theos-talk (which also got my
original informational post to bn-study) -- since I don't want to bring them
off topic. (But, I'm sure some of their members also subscribe to this open
forum, and our comments might be interesting to all other theosophists as well.)

Thanks for clarifying that those links and my concluding comment did not
relate to any particular call for political action on the part of theosophists.
But, was offered just to show us what problems we (and all others, even
worldwide) are facing as a result of the present US governmental actions that are
ignoring and counteracting the theosophical basis of the founding of the United
States -- as an experiment in a practical democratic government resting on
theosophical principles of liberty, brotherhood, equality, and unity in diversity
-- that the founding fathers, as agents of the Masters, set up and carried out
effectively enough to keep these ideas alive for over 225 years. Unfortunately
, all that is being usurped for dubious reasons that must be faced by all of
us -- as believers in self government and freedom of choice. What we can do
about it, however, is strictly our own individual decision.

In any event, I agree with you that there's nothing much we can do in
healing the body politic itself -- but perhaps, we can, both individually and
collectively, work toward more effective and practical ways to make people aware of
these problems (which are bleeding over to Europe and the Middle East) while
educating them toward understanding those principles and the theosophical
teachings behind them -- so that they might take responsibility for, and dowhat
they can to reestablish such principles of government for their own and others
benefit. I make my point by quoting two true American patriots -- who, in
essence, could be speaking from a theosophical basis.

"But you must remember, my fellow-citizens, that eternal vigilance by the
people is the price of liberty, and that you must pay the price if you wishto
secure the blessing.   It behooves you, therefore, to be watchful in yourStates
as well as in the Federal Government." -- Andrew Jackson, Farewell Address,
March 4, 1837

"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety
deserve neither liberty nor safety." -- Benjamin Franklin

As for the rest of your comments, I think that you're right in thinking abut
how futile such action may be in the face of the current corruption. But,
this runs through out entire social structure that operates on all the wrong
values. So perhaps, death is not the solution, and maybe there is possibility to
change those values. At least, we ought to think about it in such a positive
manner, since HPB predicted that this "time" would come at the beginning of
this millennium, and that it would be up to educated and self realized
theosophists to see that it didn't end in the death of this entire wave of humanity, and
set us back another million years of evolution.

Hopefully,

Leon
