They believed that in this world the soul is "clothed" by the body 
and that when the body dies and the soul is ecpelled, it then assumes 
another "body" which they called the "spiritual body" and we would 
call the "astral body" so that it would not have to ascent to the 
Empyrean naked. The astral body was thought of as a covering for the 
soul and not the soul itself. Since the astral body clothed the soul 
it was sometimes referred to as a "garment."
