It is no coincidence that the group known as Radhasoami Satsang Beas
while brought to the States well before 1975 did not see the growth
it enjoyed until sometime in the late 1970's, which is when I
joined. We can judge this by the sheer number of Westerners who were
in attendance at the Dera, rather the sheer lack of numbers there.
The group was so small that most of the evening meetings would be
held in an upstairs room part of the building where meals were
served, forgot the name of the building but it was in the Western
quarters per se.

Then a place was built to house the evening meetings because they
had to accommodate Westerners in the hundreds. Mind you when I say
Western I do not just mean American. But the word had gone out and
after Dera was opened after a 10-year terrorism scare in the Punjab,
people could not get there fast enough, including myself.

If anyone has any input on this point I would appreciate it, in
terms of history (real or anecdotal).

I believe that the reason was to bring meditation to Westerners who
were looking for it in a big way. Myself for one. What RS did for me
was allow me to meditate a long stretches of time. Some say this is
a bad thing and can cause mental illness or a big ego. But some
people are good at some things, but Netemara is not good at being
humble.

More later
