As we all know, I suspect, esoteric teachings have always tended to be somewhat difficult to digest, generally speaking, and so, as I see it, whether or not HPB is/was alive at any particular time doesn't really change that kind of tendency for indigestion, growing pains, or whatever; but, just speaking for myself, seems to me that HPB does seem to have offered us a model worth checking out just as it is. Not that we don't all do such checking in our own various ways, anyway, in keeping with whatever karmic tendencies; but of course that's another story.
