Hi,

Do you know if any theosophist was involved in the
history of the revival of the Olympic games?

Today at Olympia here in Greece the Olympic flame
was ignited with the rays of the sun. The torch
carrying the flame will travel through the five
continents of the world.

The Olympic Hymn below was written by Costis Palamas,
one of Greece's most famous poets, in 1893. The Hymn
was adopted as the Official Olympic Hymn by the
International Olympic Committee in 1957.

Immortal spirit of antiquity,
Father of the true, beautiful and good,
Descend, appear, shed over us thy light
Upon this ground and under this sky
Which has first witnessed thy unperishable
fame.
Give life and animation to those noble games!
Throw wreaths of fadeless flowers to the victors
In the race and in strife!
Create in our breasts, hearts of steel!
Shine in a roseate hue and form a vast temple
To which all nations throng to adore thee,
Oh immortal spirit of antiquity.
