On that i agree!

"As for Plato's comments, you would not want to live
in the republic he envisioned. Furthermore, most
people do not have a clue what "democracy" is or why
it is any better or worse than any alternative."

When you say that most of the people does not have a
clue of what democracy means, could you describe what
democracy means?

Derived from two ancient Greek words demos (the
people) and kratos (strength). A system of government
in which governance of the people is by elected
representatives.

Democracy -- (the political orientation of those who
favor government by the people or by their elected
representatives)

Democracy, republic, commonwealth -- (a political
system in which the supreme power lies in a body of
citizens who can elect people to represent them)

Majority rule, democracy -- (the doctrine that the
numerical majority of an organized group can make
decisions binding on the whole group)

Democracy in a practical way is a mistake. Why?

My humble opinion is the people can't elect, the mass
is not able to discern what could be a good or a bad
politician. And they are voting and choosing our
politicians. And what are the premisses involved into
the process of voting. Ask in your country whom they
have voted for senator and why, or whatever. Most of
the people they choose their votes because they are
fascinated with something.

The politicians contract an image maker, they improve
their rethoric abilities and they can easy convince
people to vote on them.

For sample:

I know many persons that have votes on a candidate for
presidency in Brazil because he was handsome, other
many because they were poor and a politician during
his campaign gave to them a pair of shoes.
