I've read what Blavatsky wrote about Cagliostro (yes, that's the one
I'm talking about). Remember, her information was largely second hand;
he was long gone before she was born. At best, he was a mystic who used
magic tricks to get attention (stage magic, that is; see why it's useful
to differentiate between magic and magick?).

Her information was second-hand? Is this the chutzpah-talk@yahoogroups list?
You're the one with second or third or fourth hand information.... She supposedly had better sources, or theosophy is a farce. Yes? No?

According to what I've seen and read, Cagliostro was the "main" disciple of le Comte St. Germaine, and a bit more than a mystic who used magic tricks to get attention. He attracted as much negative publicity and enemies and scurrilous gossip as HPB did, interestingly enough. Unless, of course, that's all you see HPB as, also, a mystic who used magic tricks.
