It seems that giving benefit of doubt re any one's good, bad, indifferent behavior, is acceptance of what is, rather than toleration for, an always limited perspective.

We have yet to move beyond the self congradulating tolerance of others, put up with me, while I put up with you, until one realizes that he/she does NOT want to put up with, but really accepted, warts and all.

If there is any truth to unity, brotherhood et. al. it somehow must come down on the side of compassion for our projected foibles, which may be the very thing in our selves that we need to work out.
