THE NAMELESS MASTERS

by Carola Trussart.

Chr:Om reden dat Katinka een eigen versie in onze taal appreciert heb
ik de moeite genomen het stuk vrij te vertalen; dus niet letterlijk.
Hier volgt de letterlijke versie uiteraard in het Engels.

[Adopted from a lecture of Master E.KRISHNAMACHARYA in Autumn 1975,
Geneva. ]

The word "Master" indicates mastery in action. We find Masters on all
levels of intelligence. Modern scientists are Masters as well. They
are always there, but from time to time they descend to lead humanity
into the age of science. Similarly, there are also Masters of the
social laws and traditions, Masters of political laws, of the world
and of man's organization on earth. From time to time they hold a key
position in some government

Actually, there is not much importance in the names of the Masters.
Above the Masters of every branch of science, there are the Masters
of "Synthesis of all Wisdom". They are the true Masters working at
the level of spiritual integration of mankind.

The Masters are able to deal with the human constitution and induce
correct functioning in the apparatus of the body and the mind, so
that these will be concentrated in the right way, on the higher
intelligence in man. The real human being is called spirit, and the
scientists who train people to tune their minds, intelligence, senses
andphysical organs correctly to their spirit, are called Masters at a
spiritual level. It is enough to know the names of some of these
Masters; those whose names we know stand as examples for the Masters.
They work in groups, and there are hundreds of them on earth. And
more, they consider themselves as the elder brothers, and they expect
all the younger brothers to gradually work out their evolution
without error and without failure and to attain
mastery.

They expect the number of Masters to grow with each person having
attained mastery. All these new Masters should be One with the World
Masters in order to work together and guide the younger ones who have
not yet attained mastery. Therefore, the number of masters cannot be
estimated. In one way or another, anywhere on this earth Masters are
guiding groups of students.

If anything goes dramatically wrong, this is due only to the
incapacity of people to assimilate the Master's advice which is
available to them on the visible or on the invisible plane. For the
Master's work on the visible or the invisible plane is the same. To
them physical existence is no serious obstacle. They are able to
extend their influence to all the disciples.

Therefore the chance to receive guidance from a Master is given to
anyone on this earth irrespective of creed, country, nationality or
membership in a spiritual association. Therefore, any serious
disturbance indicates that the person is not listening properly to
the advice of the Masters. The Masters will definitely try to
eliminate differences and magnetize the minds for the one experience
and the one truth. But the average man has to get ready to assimilate
their guidance and advice.

The Masters have no personal desire and no personal activity or
program of their own, except the one activity to be the scouts of
evolution. It all depends on a person's readiness to receive the
advice of Masters. Advice and guidance from the Master is there
anywhere and anytime, if the mind is ready to receive. While
traveling, walking on the road, at home, we have the possibility of
receiving the presence and the guidance of the Masters.

The Masters are present on many levels of existence, some of them
work to solve the social problems of mankind, although The simple
belief that the Masters are present around us creates a contact and a
link with them. Therefore, it is neither a miracle nor a mystery, it
is only a matter of belief, and of humility. It is enough for an
ordinary man to lead an average moral life, free from any intention
to harm others in thought or deed, to have satisfaction from one's
work, and contentment with modest needs, a belief in the existence of
higher beings. After a short time, there will be contact with at
least one Master. The contact need not be a conscious one for the
student, it starts with good thoughts in his mind. For some time, he
may think that these good thoughts originate from himself and are
his. But this does not bother the Masters. They want good thinking to
be produced by the human mind, but they don't claim any authorship
for or identification with good thoughts. From the very moment of
contact with the Masters, our mind receives thoughts inconceivable
before. We have to bring these thoughts to the level of daily
practice, otherwise they have no impact on us.

Thoughts are contained in all the books of the world. While
increasing our knowledge, the books are not capable of influencing
us, as long as there is no connection between our attitude and our
knowledge. Only when our knowledge starts to influence our attitude,
some part of some book will become useful.

It is the Masters' intention to activate thoughts in human lives. The
very moment when a disciple starts to put into practice a thought, a
profound change occurs in him. All the values in his mind change, his
attitude changes, his respect for others and understanding of the
Masters' presence change. The Masters need not appear physically.
They do so only rarely, when it is absolutely necessary.

Some Masters have appeared physically to Mme Blavatsky. But all the
members of the Theosophical order knew the Masters on the higher
levels only, not on the physical. Mme Blavatsky was the only one to
receive the physical presence of the Masters, Even her famous
successors knew the Masters on the mental plane only. Even A. Bailey
knew the Tibetan Master only on higher levels. The Masters don't
consider it necessary to give physical presence to the students
because they don't want to influence them in any way. It is a queer
thought that Masters should exist physically only. They eat and
perform their daily duties exactly as we do in our lives, with one
difference though: they do not reveal their identity to us. It is
possible that we meet them physically, but they keep it a secret.
Their mastership is different from their existence.

We know many Masters on the physical plane, working in the offices in
town and traveling as businessmen. We know their names, but we don't
know them. We know them, and we don't know their names. They keep a
distance between their personal identity and their name. If they
would reveal their identity instead of guiding us, this would create
disturbance to them, because it is man's nature to project his own
mental level on to others before he is capable of accepting anything
from the Masters.

Suppose all of us gather around a Master and have a good discussion
on a good topic, that means we are pulling him down to the level of
discussion while he dwells on the level of activity. The Masters care
only for activity, not for discussion. That is why they do not appear
to us. In those 5-10 minutes when we engage them in a discussion,
they could fulfill big things for the benefit of thousands of people.
That is why they keep their identity secret from us. But they don't
want to be far from us. They are among us. They know us, we don't
know them. That is their life.

I have some experience with a few strange and special beings who live
their personal life without anything, i.e., they I have some
experience with a few strange and special beings who live their
personal life without anything, i.e., they do not wish for anything
and they don't disclose whether they have any possessions or
responsibilities, and they are in a position allowing them to be
available 24 hours to work for others.

When I was 24, I walked along the street one night, and a young man
of about 30 years came up to me and asked for my name and very
naturally added that he would like to talk to me for some time. I
invited him home. He came and we spoke for a long time in the night.
At that time my second son was seriously ill and I attended on him.
This man took care of the patient as well and brought some medicine.
I do not know where from. Late at night he left and brought back some
homeopathic medicine and treated the boy throughout the night. He
watched through the night, and in the early hours the boy was healed.
He shared the daily routine of my house, washing dishes with me,
carrying water, he took coffee and breakfast with me. During the
night I asked about him, and he had given me a visiting card.

Later he was seen in Bombay walking and distributing medicine the
whole day.

Thousands of people in Bombay know him, but no one knows his name or
anything about him. Everyone knows his address, that is a tiny room,
but no one knows whether he has a wife or children, whether he works
somewhere and how he gets clothing and food. He has never asked for
anything from anyone. If we offer some food, he eats it. He likes to
live with us for one day or half day. And in that day, he will heal
all the people in the house, if we are ready to reveal any of our
problems to him. If we break our limitations, he is ready to solve
our problems.

But he says, only 2-3% of the people can really benefit from him,
because most people are not ready to reveal their problems to others.
They prefer to suffer secretly with their weak points instead of
giving up their vanity and revealing their secrets to others. But he
definitely wants to go to their houses.

After one year, he finds people more courageous to disclose their
secrets and speak freely to him. He says that some people would
follow his advice after three years and live without any secret in
their lives. He visited me many times, and still I don't know how he
lives, what his profession is, what he would like, and whether he has
a family.

He visits my house once in six or ten months. It is many hundreds of
miles from Bombay to my place, and I know that many people know him
in Bangalore. Bangalore is hundreds of miles distant from my place as
well. In India, the distance from one place to another is many
hundreds of miles. Still, many people in different towns know him
personally, and no one knows, which place he belongs to, no one
remembers that they have ever given him any money, or that he had
asked for anything.

One day I started to speak about Pythagoras and his science, and he
gave me wonderful information on the science of Pythagoras, his
higher mathematics, the school of the rituals he had installed and
the 33 volumes of his writings. He promised to bring the volumes and
lend them for my study. And as promised, he gave me the 33 volumes of
Pythagoras, and after I had copied notes from them, I gave them back
to him. Similarly, I asked him about Master St. Germain. Within 2
hours he brought a manuscript with the title "The Holy Trinosophy".

There is a published book with the title "Trinosophy", and a second
volume which is not published. He showed me both, the published one
and the unpublished one and allowed me to copy from both. We
discussed it, the knowledge it contained, the symbolism of the
pictures in the book and the symbolism of each single point in the
pictures. Any topic I would touch, he brought the books and allowed
me to copy whatever I wanted to.

After some time I asked him where his library was. He said: "The
library is not personal, but there is a place on earth for this
library. Whenever we want a book, published or unpublished, we
receive it. We are allowed to use it and give it back". He has
provided many privileges for the library and made me its member. I
learnt a lot about ancient medicine from him.

I learnt from him about the works of Paracelsus and Hippocrates, and
about the ancient astro-medicine and the link between astrology and
anatomy. I could discuss many things with him. He is very simple in
his clothing and conduct. He speaks simple English. Although we speak
about anything, he only speaks about the difficulties and wishes of
others and gives his advice. He never speaks about spirituality and
philosophy if not asked.

If anyone asks about God, he says, it is terrible to utter the name
of God, for as soon as we start to utter his name, we stop following
him. One day he made a special remark: "We should utter the name of
God only in the form of work, not in the form of word. The more we
speak about God, the more we cheat the world." That is what he said.

Then I wanted to remember the words of Buddha. He said in one
conversation: "It is idle to ask whether God is present or not, but
it is necessary to follow the indicated path." For this statement
Buddha has been regarded as an atheist. Buddha says, "It is idle to
discuss God, because if we have our responsibilities towards mankind,
where is the necessity to discuss God?"

This gentleman said something similar. I have a contact usually once
in a year or once in eight or nine months with this strange man. I am
not so stupid to discuss whether someone is a Master or not, but I am
ready to call him a Master, and I believe he is a Master ever since
the day I met him. I have seen many people discuss, whether some one
is a Master or half of a Master or no master at all, but they only
waste their time without attending to their work. Therefore, I made
it a rule to regard certain unknown people as Masters, and he is one
of them.

I have met another person. Late one evening, I was alone in my house,
because my wife and children had gone to my in-laws home. I had read
the Secret Doctrine from morning till night, and forgot about going
out to take food in a restaurant. Late at night, after 12.30 I felt
hungry and I went out. In our place, some hotels are open the whole
night for crazy people like me. I went there, ate something and came
back.

Accidentally, I met an old man with a beard and a clean though
unironned shirt. It was not neat, but clean, and it had an ink stain
at the pocket. He went along the road and for some time walked with
me. I thought he might be a beggar (there are many beggars on the
roads in India). He looked at me and smiled. I did not smile, because
I thought he was a bit crazy. At the same time I doubted this,
because his eyes had a very pure expression. The eyes had a bright
look. It was very dark, and no one was on the road.

Then he asked immediately: "So you are reading the Secret Doctrine?"
It was like an electric shock. I could not answer. After a few
seconds he repeated the same question and I replied: "I try to read
it, Sir". Then I understood something about this person and I thought
he was an impersonal being, who is there to help others. Then he said
(without any question on my part): "Begin the book from this page,
the title `the Holy of Holies'. When you have read this chapter,
start reading the book. You will understand exactly what it conveys."
He also said: "You read the Bhagavad Gita". I answered that I had
read it many times.

Then he replied: "It is not reading, only repeating", because he
knows that we read and speak in a very negligent manner.

For Masters, however, Reading and Speaking are not trivial. For them
their meaning in life is different from our meaning in life. For them
the significance of speech is very different from the significance of
speech for us. We walked a few more yards, then he said "Good night"
and took another road. After a few seconds I remembered that I would
like to know his address. I searched for him for one hour, but I
could not find him on the road. It was 2 A.M., and no creature was
there on the empty roads. I hurried through many roads, but I could
not find any trace of the man.

So I went home and started to read the Secret Doctrine again. It was
very peculiar for me, I felt a strong magnetism acting on my body,
and mysterious scenes were present in the house where I saw many
images come and go. Many persons came and disappeared again, many
forests, mountains and caves where piles of books were stored, I saw
many kinds of temples of different styles with towers, some Gothic,
some of old Indian style, some like pyramids. Then I started my
study. I understood each part of it, and after a few months I started
to teach the Secret Doctrine regularly: This strange event happened
more than 18 years ago, and for the last 13 years, I have been
preparing students for the Secret Doctrine, part by part.

The next day I went to the same road as the night before hoping to
meet him again. And I was able to meet him in the same place like the
day before. I offered him some food, because the day before he had
asked me for some food. The first day he ate, the second day he
said: "You should not offer me anything, unless I ask for it." This
was the answer of the second day.

That day he gave me seven or eight pieces of advice.

"From today stop thinking about the thoughts of others. Do not try to
know what others may think about you."

This was his first advice to me, and "Do not have any opinion about
anyone. You may remember people, but you are not expected to remember
whether they are good or bad."

This was the second advice he gave me, and the third:

"Never ask for the opinion of others, if you want to do something
good. If you feel it is good, start to do it. Never discuss anything
with anyone."

Like this he gave me the first series of advice. Then followed the
most difficult advice:

"Never ask anyone for anything. If you trust me, you will receive
what you desire. If you ask anyone, you will be a beggar. If you
wait, things will come to you. Among the richest of the world many
are beggars."

That is what he said:

"If you want to do something useful, if it is in your hands, do it.
If you want to eat, if there is food, do eat. If there is none, do
not ask, wait."

That was his advice. Ever since that day, I have been able to follow
his advice in practice. And there is no need for me to ask for
anything on any day.

When I started to work, I was called to the University, and they
employed me without any application. This has happened three times;
exactly like this. This applies not only to me, for anyone who trusts
like this, the same form of life will be there. There is no need for
you to ask. That gentlemen told me it is the same for everyone. The
only thing is that it will be effective from the time he stops
asking. As long as he asks, he will suffer from some insufficiency.
>From the moment he stops asking for anything, he will have no lack of
anything.

>From my experience I consider this to be a truth which brings good
results to everyone. He gave me many books and rich advice, and he
outlined a program of spiritual duties.

Then, I worked as a professor for 13 years. He advised me to leave
the place and go to another city, and I went. There I was called
again. He advised me to open charitable dispensaries. I did so
without any help. People started to gather by tens, hundreds and
thousands. They asked me for a plan for the dispensaries, and I gave
them a plan. The dispensaries are established, the medicines are
dispensed; each dispensary would cost some thousands of rupees
nowadays, but we have not spent a single rupee for anything. Work,
medicines and places were all donated. We are now in the year 1975,
the 28th clinic is being established in our State.

Then he asked me to start schools. I created a school where the
teachers have no salary and the students do not pay. Everyone was
laughing. The school is now doing extremely well in the ninth year.
There are four departments in the school.

The formula is: Manpower replaces money power.

This functions very well. People can take up whatever work they want
to without the necessity of any money. Even with money they work and
see to it that the money changes hands, only to make up for
psychological weakness. That is what he taught. Even in the hands of
people who use money, it acts only as a stimulant for peoples' minds,
it is only a catalyser.

Like this, he keeps advising me all the time. Wherever I am, he meets
me and gives advice. He gives hints, and remarks concerning the
teachings of Pythagoras, the Vedic mantras and the works of the
Tibetan Master and Mme Blavatsky. He gives hints to many people in
many places on earth. He does so telepathically. Once in a year, all
these people meet and check and correct their notes. I take notes in
my diary. At the same time, a lady in America takes the same notes,
and also three doctors in India. We meet once or twice a year and
check the notes.

I call him a Master, I have never wasted time to discuss whether he
is a Master or not, for me he is a Master. Like him, I know at least
9 peculiar persons up to now. And I meet these 9 persons again and
again. They say, that many thousands like them work in a similar
manner. I asked the old man where he lived and which his identity
was. He said: "Whenever it is necessary, we will meet." And whenever
it was necessary, we met. The necessity is decided by him, not by me.

The intention of the Masters is the same: to promote the evolution of
the individual and hence the human evolution, in order to support the
evolution of the planet EARTH and to tune it to the solar and cosmic
level.

This is what they do with every step they take. There is no place
where they could not go, and no person whom they could not approach.

This is their greatest art: They never reveal their identity to
anyone, but they relate to all men and any work. They can get hold of
anyone, but no one can get hold of them. This is the little I know
about the Masters.

>From the subsequent discussion: The book "Spiritual Astrology"
published under my name, has been communicated entirely by these
people. The more I asked, the more they told me about Astrology,
Alchemy, Yoga, Anatomy and Physiology. Therefore, I cannot claim
authorship of the book, as I stated on the first page. I have been
allowed to give the books to everyone, with a few reserves. They
should be kept in a shelf for the free use of any person entering the
room, they should not be taken away to another place though. If our
friends come to India, they are welcome to use the books. You may
also copy them, but not print.l
