Why are the Masters always characterized as male and not as a female

What purpose would have been served by having them be women?

Graham Hancock in his FINGERPRINTS OF THE GODS writes about "civilizers" (Osiris, Thoth, Kukulkan, Quetzalcoatl, Varichoca, etc) who appeard in various countries around the world in "prehistoric" times, but seems they all were definitely bearded, so ... One might wonder why they would all be male ... But, for all I know, maybe women had beards in those days.

Speculatively,
