As to his morals -- well, that's his karma, isn't it?
It makes sense if one wishes to place him as a moral authority. It also creates a context within which to read his books (although I find that his Christian beliefs is a more important context than his moral acts).

I see little use in our trying to pry, and exercise our curiosity, looking
back into others' accounts, and into that which is already history.
Present day opinions won't affect the ultimate desiderata. And our concern
is mainly with the right conduct of our own lives -- So ?
Well, it's better discussing it in the open than whispering it in the background, in my opinion.
