Hi Bart and Cass,

The Lost German Slave Girl is a new book about a controversial case
from 19th century New Orleans of a woman who claimed to be a German
immigrant enslaved under false pretenses. That was extremely rare,
but free black slaveowners were not. Nothing is as simple as
soundbite versions of history make it seem.
