Probably because they understood that it is not only useless but even 
dangerous to dispute with believers, which also have much money and 
power.

As far I know all the "proofs" of existence of biblical Christ
are fake.

The date about 4-7 B.C. was invented to reconcile obvious 
inconsistency with the well establishad date of Herods death.
But then it doesn't fit with life of some other ruler also mentioned 
in Bible. His name is Quirinius, if I remember correctly.
