Dear Mark
I had it explained to me like this,
The Ego- pronounced like eggo. Is the higher self. Atma, Buddhi, Higher Manas
The ego - (psychologically pronounced) is this lifetimes personality-Lower Manas, Astral, etc.
The self- that which comprises both the Eggo and the Ego, the totality of consciousness. If you say it out loud it makes more sense.

The ego (Personality) and the EGGO (The Individuality). Self, the totality.

Hope this helps
Cass

Hallo Anand,

I agree with your below view.

So why did CWL then put so much emphasis on
meditating on the higher self also known as the Ego?

Quoting your previous email on CWL at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/theos-talk/message/23219:

The man who understands

You see I have difficulties with CWL's statement that the only - "important
thing is the life of the ego".
