Re: Does "memory" limit "discovery ?"

Humor and common-Sense

Friends:

I guess I am rated as among the "serious stuff" contributors to a study of
THEOSOPHY, and to a "chat group." ? .

There is plenty of space for humor to relieve the tedium of the many
pressures that affect us.	\^^ ( ) | ( ) ^^/

But laughter, while an index of sanity and an awareness of incongruity, does
not last long and has usually a short-term memory life. Perhaps it relates
to transitory feelings and emotions ?

Is humor not the polar opposite of philosophy?

What is "incongruity?" Why not have fits if it doesn't fit?

So then, to me, it indicates a difference between "memory," and "thinking,"
or "laughing ?" The first (memory) is passive because it is over, and can't
be changed.

"Thinking" is creative and with it is associated imagination, logic,
discovery and fancy.

But that in us which laughs and enjoys, (to me) seems it is more permanent,
than our fleeting fancies of the moment.

What is its importance? Does "permanence" indicate a deeper, a more
substantial purpose? Should we spend time to discover that?

HPB is reputed to have said, when asked what was the most important faculty
a theosophist needed : "A sense of humor."

When pressed by a couple of further questions: "What is the second most
important?" She answered "Common sense." To the third query, she roared:
"More common sense."

Strange. What is "common sense" and where does it arise? Could it be
intuition?

If as THEOSOPHY says, we are immortals (as spiritual beings) on an eternal
pilgrimage, then we need not fear either death or boredom. Yet, curiously,
something in us does fear both. How is that ? Are we able to surmount fear
with knowledge ? Where does knowledge arise ?

PS
Consider Tesla ("Dripsonic" )

I find it incongruous that Tesla, an electrical genius, should send time
(implied: solely) on a mechanical vibration rather than a more basic and
fundamental electro-magnetic resonance.

Why is broadcast power limited to fractions, rather than mega-transmissions?
Curious. What's missing? Is it just possible that our average education in
physics limits our imagination to the past ? How are leaps of discovery
made?

Is it possible that those who tried to interpret his work were themselves
limited to the "mechanical" aspect -- and failed to grasp the more subtle
electro-magnetic power in operation? Is it possible to secure all the
documents and review this?

If it gets more people interested in Theosophy why not? The world and
Universe is weird and wonderful if you can get the message over in a fun
and humorous way most folk back away from serious issues, and change
channel.
The postings that have occurred over the past few days has been fantastic
without you noticing it contributions have increased enormously, People
have read the serious stuff but very few responded to it , the humorous
stuff , everyone's put in, except Anand who has probably still trying to
work out what the hell is going on! But, Theosophy is still there. it has
stimulated people to think.

I have tried to demonstrate what others would do with HPB's story I'm sure
there would be others in the Film industry would do a heck of a lot worse,
which is the danger. What is the public perception of Theosophy?
By poking fun at ourselves, perhaps we can look at ourselves and see a way
to further Theosophy.
So if you have to be a muppet, then thats OK, but follow the yellow brick
road....I wonder, the book never mentions Roadworks, traffic lights,or
traffic Jams!!! Hold on John I might get some postings on this.....
cheers Iain
