Fundamentalist bibliophobia in Adyar (reply to Anand)

Dear Anand,

I am glad to see you contributing to discussion rather than just hit-
and-run. While it is generally true (in my observation) that
fundamentalist rigidity is not often found among rank-and-file
members of the Adyar TS, the leadership and its most ardent
supporters can and do adopt fundamentalist strategies when it suits
them.

You quoted:

> A usually religious movement or point of view characterized by a
> return to fundamental principles, by rigid adherence to those
> principles, and often by intolerance of other views and opposition
to secularism.
>
The strategy that Radha Burnier has adopted to "deal with" The Elder
Brother, which you have helped carry out here on theos-talk with
a "spiritual" attack on Dr. Tillett, is no different from that
adopted by fundamentalist Christians vs. secular Bible scholarship,
etc.:
1. Ignore the evidence presented in the book.
2. Avoid all reasoning about the subject.
3. Blame the messenger.

Although some rank-and-file members of ULT and Pasadena have
demonstrated such behavior in other contexts, it is only (AFAIK) in
the Adyar TS that prominent elected officials adopt and promote such
strategies against authors publicly.

Paul
