Gregory Tillett, You Hit the Nail on the Head

May 26, 2005 08:02 PM
by Daniel H. Caldwell

You hit the nail on the
head when you wrote:

"My assessment of arguments is based on
the arguments themselves, not on the present
or past associations of the person expressing
the opinion. But 'shooting the messenger' is
an old political tactic. The gullible are
often impressed."

This is a tactic used time and time again.
I have even been the target more than once
of such tactics. Of course, if you can
not counter the argument itself, why not
divert attention to the "messenger"?
