Re: Tau tria delta

You ask: "Are you saying that this is a pen name of HPB?"

I did not mean to say this "nom de plume" was one that HPB used. I merely
gave one possible interpretation of it.

-----------------------------------

SYMBOLS

Here are some more symbols and possible meanings:

TAU may stand for 1 - 3 - 4 and 10 depending on the numerological
base selected.

DELTA while it is 4 , is also shown as a Ä ( or a pyramid )

3 x 3 = 9 ; 3 x 9 = 27 = 9 ; add 1 = 10

if a pyramid then: 3 x 4 = 12

3 x 12 = 36 = 9 ; add 1 =10

3 signifies the 3 spiritual principles [ATMA-BUDDHI-MANAS]

4 signifies the 4 material [Kama, Prana, Astral & Physical bodies]

TAU as a glyph indicates the Universe both in (1) total, and (2) in
manifestation.

The circle may stand for unbounded illimitable SPACE.

The horizontal line for the division between unmanifested and manifested
SPACE.

And the vertical line for the basic duality of SPIRIT / MATTER when the
universe is reborn.

1 and 10 may signify both the WHOLE MAN, and also, the 10 PRINCIPLES that
together compose Man.

3 - UNIVERSAL; 3 - SPIRITUAL, and 4 - material. [see S D I 200 ]

Originator and reader have to know the codes agreed on. [For example see in
ISIS UNVEILED, Vol. II, pp. 392-399.]

----------------------------------

I did mean to say HPB may have travelled wider than so far recorded.

Her complete history, voyages and work are not totally recorded. It is also
indicated by those who worked closely with her since 1875 that much of her
actual writings have been destroyed.

---------------------------------

As an example her printed writings all have the same profound esoteric base
resident within them, and easily discernable to the devoted student, as they
pervade everything she wrote. Each offers some insight on the many aspects
of our struggle for self-knowledge. These we have to locate and study.

1 They are (in part) universality, impersonality, actuality, and
are essentially practical. They are matters of human daily life.

2 The Human SPIRIT (ATMA) is as a "ray" one with the UNIVERSAL
SPIRIT. We are linked to all aspects of Nature around us, and to it.

3 The Human Monad and the Universal MONAD are ONE. We are
"Immortals in Spirit," and, because of this, we are intimately linked to
every other "Monad" -- we are surrounded (as atoms and molecules) and they
are drawn together under the law of Karma to form our present physical
bodies.

4 The 7-fold nature of the Universe and Humanity must be grasped.

5 One needs to correlate the explanations she gives in

S D I 157-8 and S D II 632-3. 590-605, 596;

6 Additionally: See S D I 181 -- the triple evolutionary
scheme.

7 Study HPB's article PSYCHIC AND NOETIC ACTION [H P B Art. Vol.
II, p. 7] as it identifies two great springs of human motive for action: The
Higher and the Lower Self (the mind-soul), S D II, pp. 109-110.

8 Moral States and practised virtues need to be identified and
employed.

Theosophical psychology is founded on a study of moral conditions, and, is
immediately and practically related to conduct.

9 Theosophical psychology is therefore dynamic and not merely
descriptive. Its purpose is to assist the reader in deciding what he ought
to do. It has to be lived.

"The following classification and discussion of the three qualities
["Gunas"] illustrates the vital difference between the ancient, true
psychology of the East, and what is termed Western psychology. Both abound
in classifications; those of the East are much more numerous than those of
the West and cover a far wider field; Western psychology in its
classifications refers solely to mental states. The psychology of the Gita
and the ancient sages [such as Patanjali] classifies the moral states,
treating the mental states as mere effects produced by moral conditions.

Herein lies the secret of the hold the Gita has had all down the ages, and
continues to have increasingly. It lays bare unsuspected bases of error; it
discloses the most subtle forms of self-delusion ; it marks out the true
course so painstakingly that the dullest mind cannot fail to grasp a clear
perception of the path to true knowledge." G. Notes, p. 196-7

Best wishes,

Dallas

Hi Dallas,

Thanks for the interesting reply to the question of the authorship of

the article "African Magic".

Your interpretation of The symbols used in the "nom de plume"

"Tautriadelta" were profound and I appreciate you taking the time. Are

you saying that this is a pen name of HPB? If it is then it is the

only known example she used it to my knowledge. This is hard to

reconcile with Kim Farnell's statement that the author of the article

and claimant to the anonymous pseudonym is Robert Donston

Stephenson.

I think you make a very good point that, if HPB was the author of this

article on experiences in West Africa, then her travels were far more

extensive than was previously believed.

Thanks

Spiro

Re: AFRICAN MAGIC , Lucifer Article, Nov/Dec 1890

History records show Mabel Collins was expelled from the E S around

Jan/Feb 1889 [see The THEOSOPHICAL MOVEMENT (1875-1950) ,

pp. 148-9, and PATH, Vol. IV, pp. 126-7.

This article AFRICAN MAGIC came out in LUCIFER almost 2 years later

! This time delay seems important to me.

I wonder if we have a full record of all of HPB's travels in her life prior

to 1875, "laying down the 'lines of force'" it was once written, needed for

her future work ?

The symbols used as "nom de plume" seem to show TAU (the symbol of

Perfect "Man" (Adeptship) -- the Pythagorean TEN - 10 --) placed in the

center (or leading ?) of three pyramids (symbolized by the 3 DELTAS). Or,

Manas in its three-fold aspect. [This may be one interpretation ? DTB]

This article AFRICAN MAGIC came out in LUCIFER almost 2 years later !
