RE: Maya

Dear Friends:

Concerning the observations made:

"Gerald wrote:

"The fact of the matter is that everything in conditional
reality is an aggregate and there simply is no such thing as a "one"
anything."

I read a passage recently along these lines and sums it up well:

"What we call 'I', or 'being', is only a combination of physical and mental
aggregates, which are working together interdependently in a flux of
momentary change within the law of cause and effect, and that there is
nothing permanent, everlasting, unchanging in the whole of existence". --
M. F.

-------------------------------------------

Thinking over this, I would like to offer for consideration:

In the Universe all changes constantly. Agreed. Yet the "parts" of the
Universe retain and continually sustain an individuality of their own.

As the Universe is immortal, so are they all immortals. But this
immortality is of "spirit-energy ?" and not of "matter."

This atmosphere of continual change may be considered a "veil" to REALITY,
and designated "maya" in Buddhist philosophy, or elsewhere.

But the UNIVERSE is ONE, and as it includes all subsidiaries, may we not say
that those subsidiaries (Monads, ATMA-BUDDHI, or however defined) are in
essence of the same quality, capacity, potential and nature as the UNIVERSE
of which they form an indissoluble part ?

In their total aggregate may we not assume that they and the UNIVERSE are in
fact that ONE ? "As above, so below."

Whether mobile or static, it seems that the essential unity of any one
"part" may be correlated by analogy to all others as well as to the WHOLE,
the ONE ?

Since we have evidence all around us of cooperation, and a life-support
system in place, may we deduce that there are Laws and Rules established in
antiquity (however remote) that operate in the ONE UNIVERSE to protect and
promote every and all "parts" thereof ? [ S D I 157-8]

There are evidences of various states of matter relative to their energy
content and area of influence and existence / manifestation. - These, as
sub-divisions, have tentatively been called etherial, aeriform, gaseous,
vaporous, astral bodies and planes, and as condensation proceeds (perhaps
the inter-atomic spaces are universally reduced ?) liquids, semi-liquids,
crystalline and amorphous solids appear in all their vast variety and
infra-structures.

The Theosophical view of the formation of worlds is traced in detail in the
pages of the SECRET DOCTRINE, Vol. I -- : An IDEAL (SPIRITUAL) Plan is
established (akasic and of "Jiva" (life-universal) and thereon, under the
Karma of the "parts [Monads]" condensation proceeds, and energy guides
thereafter all aspects of density and configuration. Matter as we know it is
progressively developed and distributed as needed.

[A useful diagram relative to this is given on S D I 200.]

The fist half of the Cycle of Manifestation seems to be expressible as :

Ex-spiritual, to Akasic Plan, to ethereal, airy forms, and, as density
increases, the individual form size condenses. [Solid matter - Globe D.]

Concurrent with the development of the necessary materials is the
development of intelligence: natural impulses and expressions of attraction
and repulsion [Kama]; this gradually provides forms of increased ability
for Minds to use and inhabit. The process of "reincarnation" is employed for
this. [Mankind is at this stage at present.] [ S D I 181-2]

Mental development includes at first all adjustments to coexistence with the
natural impulses [Kama]. Chaotic impulses are brought into order.
[Kama-manas is encouraged to transform itself into Buddhi-Manas.]

The capacity to think and the field of thought are then studied and brought
under control by each Mind-Unit [Monad] .

The perception of universal and impersonal rules of life, cooperation and
Law [Karma] now engage the conscious attention of the Thinker-Ego [the
Higher aspect of Kama-Manas], under the guidance of the tutoring Monad
[ATMA-BUDDHI]. [This accounts for the "Two Egos" in Man.]

Self-consciousness as a tool of study and observation gradually refined and
fine-tuned gives way to the orderly processes of discrimination, as WISDOM
(Universal Law in Operation: ) is perceived to be impersonally and
universally operative.

The passionate and emotional character of the "lower Mind" [Kama-Manas] is
now fully controlled and it makes itself voluntarily docile, as it also
acquires the power to reason and perceives its own permanent existence (as
memory) depends on its fidelity (in every life) to Law as an expression of
continual living Virtue, or Wisdom in every and all actions (life and
living) .

When this portion of the program has been achieved, it proceeds to
consolidation and diffusion of these disciplines by progressive steps
through nature: physical to astral, astral to emotional and passion,
passion to dispassion and self-control,

Acquirement of mental stability and acuity leads to dispassion and
discrimination, as BUDDHI {wisdom} is made the dominant base for all
actions.

Nature having thus been "purified" and transformed into Mulaprakriti
(root-matter) it is possible for ATMA to manifest without veil (or maya) at
last.

I wonder if this is of help?

Best wishes,

Dallas
