The only reason why such views were prevalent in Catholicism was
because of archaic fundamentals present in society at the time. As we
all know, the church really doesn't like when people oppose them
(hence it stuck for many years). Sexist statements like those bear no
clout today, and are clearly based on outdated assumption--the same
assumption, I might add, that also suggested eating fish, wearing
plaid, and homosexuality was as "evil" as women were.
