Big Daddy, Victimhood and New Orleans

Apparently the National Guard troops have arrived and begun restoring order and relief in New Orleans. That the relief operation has been a disaster for a first world country is recognized by nearly all of its citizens.

The mind set that looks to Washington first and never blaming the victim for at least some of his problems is anathema to both the American character and Theosophy. Both first assume the citizen or the soul should take personal responsibility for his own destiny. Most of the remaining New Orleans' citizens did,or were forced to do, this and were waiting for relief to arrive. Some were sleeping on the ground because no housing was available. Despite what some of list members have said, it is difficult to starve to death in five days. No matter where one goes there will always be some who take advantage of disasters of any kind. Assuming personal responsibility for one's destiny is not exclusively a right-wing idea as one list member suggested.
